Check Engine Light and Transmission Trouble in 2021 Seat Tarraco: Possible Faulty Transmission Selector Lever?

Hey Gearheads! I'm working through something with my 2021 Seat Tarraco (gas-guzzler, 179,617km on the dial and still roaring)! My check engine light's playing peekaboo and transmission's acting wackier than a roo on a bouncy castle! I noticed it slipping and shifting like a mad hatter at tea time, made me think it might tie back to a faulty transmission selector lever. Am I barking up the wrong transmission tower here? Also, has anyone had a similar issue and how did your mechanic take care of it? Last time I went to my guy, it was like a bad date - just don't want to repeat that nightmare! Chat me up below, I appreciate all the tips and stories you folks share!

Hey! Sounds like you've got a similar problem I had with my 2018 Seat Ateca. Pretty much the same symptoms you've described, crazy shifting and all. Turns out, you're spot on about the faulty transmission selector lever. In my case, the cable connection on the selector lever was damaged. I ain’t no mechanic and don’t want to scare you, but it was indeed a serious issue. My mechanic had to replace the damaged cable with a new one and adjusted it to get it to function properly. After that, the nightmare with the erratic transmission was over. Touch wood, it's running smoothly ever since. As for the check engine light, it could be due to the same problem or something unrelated. But I'd say get that checked out without delay! Better safe than sorry! All the best sorting this problem with your ride! Don't let it turn into your personal nightmare!

Cheers for the info! Sounds like we've got a shared struggle with these Seat slippers. Glad to hear your kangaroo jumping shifting sorted itself out with some cable care. Quick question - do you recall roughly how much this gear-shifter operation gouged your wallet? I'm just trying to prep my piggy bank for possible surgery, you know what I mean? Also, since getting things squared away, have you noticed any other strange behaviour, or has it been smooth sailing? I just want to be ready if any other nasty surprises decide to pop up. Thanks for taking the time to reply, I really appreciate it!

Hey there! Absolutely know what you mean. No one loves a surprise drill into their pocket, especially not for car repairs, right? As for the cost of fixing the cable connection on the selector lever, it ran me about 365€. Not the cheapest dance, but it's been worth every penny considering how smooth the Tarraco's been running since. And speaking of running, it's been like a dream come true after those repairs. No more selector lever shenanigans, no more feeling like I'm on a roo's villa hopping journey every time I shift gears. So yes, it was a one-off issue and since the mechanic sorted it out, it's been smooth sailing all the way. I hope this eases your mind and helps your piggy bank recuperate from the shock! Keep those wheels spinning and the good times rolling! And remember to tackle any car issues head on, better clear them off before they morph into bigger problems. Good luck with your Tarraco!

Howzit! Thanks heaps for dishing out all the details. That cost gives me a fair idea of the financial hit - ouch to the piggy bank but cheers for the heads-up! Good to hear you've been cruising smoothly post repair. I'll definitely catch the bull by the horns now, don't want no gremlins coming out of my car's closet further down the road! I'm off to see my mechanic first thing tomorrow. Let's hope this turns out better than the last bad date! Appreciate your time and advice. Crossing fingers for a smooth ride ahead with my Tarraco! Keep rocking and rolling on the road! Cheers!

Is it possible to delete error codes without Smart Mechanics?

I was wondering whether I need the "Carly Dmart Mechanic" (+€35.99) to be able to delete error codes. Or is this also possible with the basic version?

The ability to read and clear error codes usually depends on the specific app and device you're using. Some basic versions may allow you to clear codes, while others might require an upgrade. I would recommend checking the features of the basic version of the Carly app you're using or contacting their customer service for clarification. If you're still having trouble, feel free to ask more questions.
