Check engine light and poor performance in Mercedes GLS Class Diesel 2019 - A possible defect in the throttle potentiometer?

Unsteady engine

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Poor fuel economy

Check engine light on

Engine shuts off by itself

Hey guys! I'm having problems with my 2019 Mercedes GLS Class Diesel, which has already done around 82321 km. The check engine light is on, the engine stalls from time to time, the performance is weak and the engine runs unstable. When accelerating, the car jerks and consumption is also higher than usual. Could this be due to the throttle potentiometer? I am rather cautious after my last experience at the mechanic. Have any of you had similar symptoms and can give me some tips before I go to the mechanic? Thanks in advance!

Hey, I had similar problems with my 2016 Mercedes GLE class diesel. It was a problem with the internal mechanics of the throttle valve. The same symptoms as yours: the engine ran unstable, stalled sporadically and the fuel consumption was also higher than usual. Not to mention the jerking when accelerating. During a thorough inspection, my mechanic discovered that the throttle valve was defective. A new throttle valve was installed, which solved the problem once and for all. Of course, every situation is different, but based on my experience, I would say that your issues could very likely be related to the throttle body. It's definitely something you should address on your next visit to the garage. Hope this helps you!

Hey, thanks for your answer! That sounds pretty much like my situation. Do you remember roughly how much the repair cost? Did something go wrong again afterwards or did the car run like clockwork again? I just want to be sure before I get the big hammer out at the garage.

Hey, no problem, I'm glad I could help! So, the repair cost me €345. It was the inner mechanics of the throttle valve that they replaced. And since the visit to the mechanic, everything has been running like clockwork. The fault with the throttle potentiometer had been rectified and there was no trace of the previous problems. The car runs like a new car again! So, don't worry, it seems that going to the garage is the right thing to do in your case.

Hey, that's good to hear! Your information really helps me. 345 is not exactly cheap, but if everything runs like clockwork again, it seems to be worth it. I'll follow your advice and have the throttle body replaced next time I visit the mechanic. Thanks again for your advice and your time! I hope my car runs like a new car again soon! Take good care of yourself and stay in the fast lane, but always within the speed limit! Bye bye!
