Warning light in the speedometer of the vehicle

Hey everyone, my 2008 Mitsubishi Challenger (72k km, gasoline) has been giving me some trouble recently. The brake pedal feels off, and I've got multiple warning lights showing up, ABS, brake lights, and a warning in the speedometer cluster. The stability control isn't working either. I suspect it might be the brake pedal position sensor, but I'm hesitant to visit my local mechanic after a previous bad experience. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was the actual issue and how much did the repair cost? Would really appreciate some insights on trustworthy mechanics in the area who are familiar with these problems. Thanks in advance!

I had a similar issue with my 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander last summer. The multiple warning lights and brake pedal concerns match what I experienced. In my case, it turned out to be a failing ABS control module, not just the brake pedal sensor. Got it checked at my regular garage, and the diagnostic showed that moisture had gotten into the ABS unit, causing corrosion on the electronic components. The brake pedal feeling weird was because the system was defaulting to basic braking without ABS and stability control. The fix required replacing the ABS control module and recalibrating the entire brake system. It was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention, not something you want to postpone since it affects core safety systems. I'd suggest finding a certified Mitsubishi specialist rather than a general mechanic. These symptoms are pretty specific to Mitsubishi's brake control systems, and you'll want someone who knows their way around them.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. The ABS module explanation makes a lot of sense given all my warning lights. Do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, just curious, has everything been working smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up?

Hey there! Actually, I need to correct my earlier response about the ABS module. When I took my Outlander to the shop, it turned out I was totally wrong about the diagnosis. The mechanic found that it was just the brake pedal position sensor not working properly, but here's the funny part, it wasn't even broken! The fix was super simple and didn't cost me a penny. Turns out I needed to do a basic reset of the sensor by fully pressing and releasing the brake pedal a few times with the ignition on but engine off. Kind of like a "turn it off and on again" situation! Since that quick fix at the mechanic's, everything's been running perfectly smooth, no warning lights, no brake issues, nothing. The stability control is working great too. Sometimes the simplest solution is the right one! So before you worry too much about expensive repairs, maybe have a mechanic check if it's just a sensor that needs resetting. Could save you a bunch of money! Hope this helps clear things up about my experience!

Oh wow, that's such a relief to hear! I actually just got back from the mechanic today, and you won't believe it, I had almost the same experience! I was stressing about potentially having to replace the whole ABS module, but it turned out to be way simpler. The mechanic I found specializes in Mitsubishis (thanks for that tip!), and he immediately recognized the issue. It wasn't even the sensor itself, there was just some dirt causing interference with the brake pedal position sensor. He cleaned it up, did a quick reset, and boom, all the warning lights disappeared! Only paid $50 for the diagnostic and cleaning, which is nothing compared to what I was expecting. The car's running perfectly now, no more weird brake pedal feel, all warning lights are gone, and the stability control is back to normal. Really glad I asked here before panicking and spending a fortune on unnecessary repairs. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it helped me find the right mechanic and avoid getting overcharged!
