Cayman HVAC Mystery: No Heat or Cool Air Flow

Insufficient Cooling/Heating

Hey everyone, having some trouble with my 2009 Porsche Cayman (60,738 km). The heating and cooling system isn't working properly, barely getting any warm or cold air through the vents. Had a bad experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar heating/cooling issues in their Cayman? Would love to hear about your experiences and recommended repair shops. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, had a similar issue with my 2012 Porsche Boxster last winter. The electric auxiliary heater was acting up, giving me the same symptoms, minimal air temperature control. Took it to my Porsche specialist, and they diagnosed it as a faulty auxiliary heater unit. The repair involved replacing the entire auxiliary heater assembly and recalibrating the climate control system. It was a significant job that took about a day and a half to complete. Not something you'd want to leave unattended, as it can affect your defrosting functionality too.

Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! This sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? And has everything been working smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks with the heating system? I've heard these issues can sometimes be related to other components, so I'm trying to get a full picture before I dive in.

Hey again! Just wanted to follow up since I saw your questions. After getting it fixed at my Porsche specialist, the heating system has been working like a charm, no issues whatsoever! The total bill came to 350€ for replacing the faulty electric auxiliary heater, and honestly, it was worth every penny. The car's climate control is now working perfectly, I can actually enjoy proper heating and cooling again! I was a bit worried at first about potential related issues, but it turned out to be just the auxiliary heater that was giving me grief. Once they replaced that, everything else fell into place. The defrost works great now too, which is a huge relief with winter coming up. It's been about a year since the repair, and I haven't had to think twice about the heating system since. If you're experiencing the same symptoms, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later. The peace of mind alone is worth it! Let me know if you need anything else, happy to help!

Thank you so much for all the detailed info! I actually went ahead and got it fixed yesterday at the shop you recommended. Had almost the same experience as you, it was the auxiliary heater that needed replacing. My bill was a bit higher at 400€, but I'm just relieved it's sorted now. The mechanic was super professional and got it done in just one day. They even showed me the old part and explained what went wrong. The best part? My car's heating is working like new again! Tested it this morning on my way to work, and the warm air was flowing perfectly. Even the AC seems to be working better now. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it helped me make the right decision instead of putting it off and potentially facing bigger issues down the road. Thanks again for the recommendation! If anyone else runs into similar problems, I can definitely vouch for this repair shop now. Take care!
