Camaro Airbag Light: Rollover Sensor Diagnosis Guide

Airbag warning light

Fault stored

2012 Camaro, Airbag Warning Light and Rollover Sensor Issue Getting an airbag warning light on my dash and stored error codes in my 2012 Camaro. Pretty sure it's related to a faulty rollover sensor in the safety system. Looking for insights from anyone who's dealt with this specific SRS sensor issue. What was the actual problem and repair cost? Was it a straightforward fix at the shop or did it require extensive diagnostic work? Want to know what I'm getting into before taking it in.

I dealt with a very similar vehicle safety issue on my 2014 Chevrolet Impala. Having some experience working on cars, I initially thought it was just a loose connection, but it turned out more complex. The airbag sensor warning light came on suddenly, and diagnostic scans pointed to the rollover detection module in the safety system. The automotive sensor unit itself was faulty and needed complete replacement. My repair process: had full diagnostic scan, Located defective control unit, Required specialized reprogramming, Total repair cost around 1000 for parts and labor This isn't something you want to mess with since it's a critical safety system component. The airbag sensor system needs proper diagnostic equipment and expertise. To help more specifically with your case, could you share: Any specific error codes you're getting? Did the warning light appear suddenly or intermittently? Have you had any recent work done near the center console?

Thanks for the detailed response. The warning light started flashing intermittently about 2 weeks ago at 110,381 KM. Got error code B0091 from my scanner which points to the rollover sensor communication failure. Haven't had any recent work done, but did hit a pretty nasty pothole right before this started. The vehicle safety system has been flawless until now. Getting a bit concerned since I know the airbag system won't work properly with a faulty sensor. Really hoping I can avoid the full sensor replacement cost, but it's looking like that might be unavoidable. Would replacing just the wiring harness be worth trying first?

Hitting that pothole definitely makes sense as the trigger, had almost the exact same situation with my Impala. The tilt sensor and crash detection systems in these models are pretty sensitive to major impacts. After dealing with my own rollover sensor failure, I'd strongly advise against just replacing the wiring harness first. That B0091 code specifically indicates a communication failure with the sensor unit itself. I wasted time checking connections before learning the hard way that the internal sensor components were damaged. A failed impact test is what confirmed my suspicions, the vehicle rollover detection system wasn't responding correctly during diagnostics. The SRS sensor needed full replacement to restore proper airbag system function. Quick tip from my experience: make sure they check the mounting points when installing the new sensor unit. Mine had slight damage from the impact that needed addressing to prevent future issues. The safety system is pretty particular about proper sensor alignment. The repair cost you're looking at should be similar to what I paid. It's not cheap, but it's way better than having a compromised airbag system. Have you noticed any other warning lights or unusual behavior since hitting that pothole?

Thanks for that insight about the mounting points, that's really helpful. You're probably right about skipping the wiring harness check and going straight for the sensor replacement. Just wanted to explore cheaper options first, but I guess you can't cut corners with safety systems. No other warning lights or weird behavior since hitting that pothole. Just the airbag warning light flashing and that B0091 code. Think I'll bite the bullet and schedule the repair next week. Rather spend the money now than risk having non-functioning airbags in an emergency. Definitely learned my lesson about what these vehicle safety sensors can handle impact-wise. Next time I see a pothole that big, I'm definitely going around it! Going to ask them to do a full crash detection system check while they're in there, just to be on the safe side.
