Buick Verano Stalling: Fuel Regulator Symptoms Guide

Looking for advice, my Buick Verano has been acting up lately with constant engine stalls and power loss. The check engine light is on and it has really poor fuel efficiency, especially when idling. I suspect the fuel volume regulator but had a bad experience with my last mechanic and want to get some second opinions before going back. Car specs: 2014 model with gas engine, around 80k on the clock. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? What was your repair experience like?

Had similar symptoms on a 2011 Buick Regal with the 2.0L engine. The rough idling and power loss issues pointed to a failing high pressure fuel pump. The check engine light kept coming on, and fuel efficiency dropped significantly. The repair required replacing the complete high pressure pump assembly. This is a serious repair that needs proper diagnostic equipment and expertise, as the fuel delivery system is critical for engine operation. The symptoms got progressively worse over time, starting with occasional power loss and eventually leading to complete stalls. The repair involved: Full system diagnostic, Fuel pressure testing, Removal of old pump assembly, Installation of new OEM pump, Fuel system purge, Computer reset, Test drive verification This is not a DIY job due to the complexity of modern fuel systems. A certified shop with proper diagnostic tools is essential. The symptoms match classic fuel regulator and pump failure patterns. Continuing to drive with these issues risks further engine damage. Would strongly recommend having it checked soon, as fuel system problems tend to cascade into bigger issues if left unaddressed.

I experienced nearly identical issues with my Verano last winter. The fuel injection system was acting up, causing engine misfires and terrible fuel efficiency. After reading your repair breakdown, it sounds exactly like what I went through with the high pressure pump. I am curious, do you remember roughly what the total repair cost came out to? Also, have you had any other fuel system problems since getting it fixed? My repair has held up well so far but always good to know what to watch for down the road.

Since getting my 2011 Regal repaired, the fuel system has performed flawlessly. The total repair cost came to 1510€ for fixing both the high pressure pump and fuel volume regulator. Having a certified mechanic diagnose and repair these components was worth every cent, as the engine misfire issues completely disappeared and fuel economy returned to normal. The fuel injection system now works perfectly with no rough idling or power loss problems. Regular maintenance and using quality fuel have helped maintain the repair work. After 18 months, I have not experienced any recurring fuel system issues or engine performance problems. Getting proper automotive repair from a qualified shop might seem expensive upfront, but preventing cascading engine damage makes it cost-effective in the long run. Since the repair, the car runs like new with consistent power delivery and steady idle.

Thanks everyone for the advice. After reading through the responses, I decided to bite the bullet and take it to a certified Buick dealer. The diagnostic confirmed a failing high pressure fuel pump just as suggested here. The repair totaled around 1400 for parts and labor. They also found and fixed a minor vacuum leak while they were in there. The whole process took about 6 hours but the results were worth it. The check engine light is off, fuel efficiency is back to normal, and no more stalling or power loss issues. Key lesson learned, finding a reputable certified shop makes a huge difference. The dealer techs showed me the worn pump components and explained everything clearly. While the cost was higher than my previous mechanic quoted, getting it done right the first time saved money in the long run. They also recommended some preventive maintenance items to watch for as the car ages. The car runs great now and I have peace of mind knowing the fuel system was properly repaired.
