Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what happened with my Lancer too, really helpful to know. Hey, do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, just curious, have you had any other brake issues pop up since getting it fixed? Asking because I want to know what to expect down the road. Thanks!
Hey there! Yes, I remember it quite well actually since it happened last year. The whole brake repair job for my Lancer cost me 480€, that covered replacing the worn-out brake pads and fixing the brake fluid level issue. Since getting it fixed, my brakes have been working perfectly, no warning lights or any other issues have popped up. I've been extra careful about getting regular maintenance checks done though, just to stay on top of things. My mechanic did a great job, and it was definitely worth every penny considering it's such a crucial safety component. The brake fluid level being too low was actually a symptom of the worn-out brake pads, but they sorted that out during the repair. Now I make it a habit to visually check my brake fluid level every couple of months, just to be on the safe side. Trust me, you'll feel the difference once it's fixed, the braking is so much smoother now. Just make sure you don't wait too long to get it checked out like I initially did!
Thanks a lot for all the info! Just wanted to update you on what happened. I took your advice and got it checked out today. Turns out it was pretty similar to your situation, worn brake pads and low fluid. Found this small garage that specializes in Japanese cars, and they seemed really honest. The whole thing cost me about 450€, which wasn't as bad as I was expecting after my last mechanic experience. They fixed everything up in about three hours, and wow, what a difference! The brakes feel so much more responsive now. The mechanic also showed me how to check the brake fluid myself, which was pretty cool of him. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me make the right call. I'll definitely be going back to this place for future maintenance. Sometimes getting ripped off once leads you to find better options, I guess!
I had a similar issue with my '08 Mitsubishi Lancer last year. The brake warning light came on, and like you, I initially thought it was just low brake fluid. Took it to my mechanic, and it turned out the brake pads were completely worn out. They also found that the rotors were scored pretty badly and needed replacement. From my experience working with Japanese cars, when the brake warning light comes on, it's usually more than just low fluid, it's often a sign that your brake pads are at the end of their life. In my case, the worn pads had started making metal-to-metal contact with the rotors, which explained the scoring. The repair was quite extensive, they had to replace both front brake pads and rotors. It was a serious safety issue that needed immediate attention, and I'm glad I didn't put it off any longer. The rear brakes were still okay, though. If you're in your area, I'd recommend getting it checked soon, brake issues aren't something to delay on. My regular mechanic specializes in Asian imports and they've always been straight with me about what actually needs fixing.
