Thanks so much for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the crankshaft position sensor, sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up?
Hey again! Happy to update you. Yes, the repair was completely successful, it was indeed the crankshaft position sensor causing all that trouble. The total bill came to 250€ for fixing the sensor, and they also corrected the position of the crankshaft to camshaft which was slightly off. Since getting it fixed, my HR-V has been running like a dream! No more unusual stalling, power loss, or any weird noises. It's been about a year now and honestly, it feels just like when I first bought it. The engine's smooth, responsive, and that pesky check engine light hasn't shown its face since. Just keep in mind that catching these issues early like you did is super important. If I'd waited longer, it could've turned into a much bigger (and more expensive) problem. Really glad I got it sorted when I did. Hope this helps with your decision! Let me know if you need any other info about the repair process.
Thanks for all the info everyone! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my BR-V. I took it to the mechanic last week, and you were spot on, it was indeed the crankshaft position sensor causing all those problems. The repair ended up costing me around 300 bucks, which included replacing the sensor and doing a thorough oil system clean-up. The mechanic was actually pretty great this time, took the time to explain everything and even showed me the worn-out parts. Car's running beautifully now! No more unusual shutdowns or weird noises, and that annoying check engine light is finally off. What a relief! Feels like I've got a new car again. Definitely learned my lesson about not waiting too long when these issues pop up. Really appreciate everyone's help and advice on this. Would've probably stressed out way more without your input! Guess sometimes you just need a push in the right direction to get these things sorted.
I had almost identical issues with my 2020 Honda HR-V last year. The symptoms matched yours exactly, unusual stalling, power loss, and that dreaded check engine light. The metal in the oil definitely caught my attention too. Took it to the garage and turns out the crankshaft position sensor was failing. It messed with the engine timing and caused all those symptoms. The sensor was sending wrong signals to the ECU, making the engine run rough and stall. They also found some wear on the bearing surfaces, which explained the metal shavings. It was actually quite serious, if left unchecked, it could've led to major engine damage. The fix involved replacing the crankshaft sensor, cleaning the entire oil system, and checking all bearing surfaces. Took about two days to complete everything. My advice? Don't wait on this one. These symptoms won't fix themselves, and you could end up with bigger problems if you keep driving it like this.
