Boxster's Multiple Engine Issues Point to Fuel Pump Crisis

Unsteady engine

Longer cold start time

Car won't start

Jerking on acceleration

Loss of engine power

Engine shuts off by itself

Check engine light on

Hey everyone, my 2019 Porsche Boxster is giving me serious trouble. The engine's acting up with multiple issues, stalling out of nowhere, hard starts when cold, significant power loss, rough idle, and jerking during acceleration. Check engine light is on and sometimes it won't start at all. I suspect it might be the fuel pump, but I'd like to hear from others who've dealt with similar symptoms in their Boxster. What did your mechanic find and how was it fixed? Any insights would be really helpful! Thanks

Hey there! I have some experience working on cars (low experience, mostly basic maintenance and troubleshooting). I actually faced really similar issues with my 2017 Porsche Cayman last year. Same symptoms, stalling, rough starts, power loss, the works. Turned out the fuel pump was getting wrong signals due to a software glitch. Took it to my trusted Porsche specialist and they reprogrammed the fuel pump control module. Cost me about 45 Euro, and the car's been running perfectly since. Before I can offer more specific advice, could you share: How many miles/km on your Boxster? Have you scanned for error codes? Any recent maintenance or repairs? Feel free to drop these details, and I'll try to help further based on my experience!

Thanks for the reply! My Boxster has 108864 KM on the clock and just had its service last month. I'll definitely look into the fuel pump control module, that's interesting that a simple software fix sorted it out for you. Haven't scanned for codes yet, but planning to do that tomorrow at my local shop. Really appreciate the help and specific solution you shared, gives me hope it might not be a major repair!

Hey again! Thanks for those details about your Boxster. Yeah, when I had these issues with my Cayman, I was also really worried it might be something major, but the software fix worked wonders. Though I should mention, in my case, my car had about 95000 KM when this happened, so pretty similar mileage to yours. Since you're getting it scanned tomorrow, that's definitely the right move. Just to share my full experience, before I discovered it was the fuel pump control module, I actually wasted money replacing the fuel filter thinking that might help (spoiler: it didn't!). So definitely get those codes read first before replacing any parts. Quick tip from what I learned: if the scan shows any fuel system-related codes (like P0171 or P0087), it's probably the same issue I had. Would love to hear what codes you get, might be able to confirm if it's identical to what happened with my Cayman. Keep us posted after the scan! And don't worry too much, modern Porsches are pretty robust, and this is usually more of an annoyance than a serious problem.

Thanks so much for all the detailed info and encouragement! It's such a relief to hear that you went through something similar and it wasn't a major issue. I'll definitely avoid jumping into replacing parts before getting those codes read, really appreciate that tip about the fuel filter, could've made the same mistake! I've got the scan scheduled for tomorrow morning at 9, and I'll keep an eye out for those specific codes you mentioned (P0171 and P0087). Actually feeling much more optimistic now, knowing it might just be a software issue rather than a mechanical problem. Will definitely update the thread once I get the scan results. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's exactly the kind of firsthand insight I was hoping for when I posted!
