Boxster's Bouncy Ride: Height Sensor Problem or More?
Excessive Bouncing
Uneven Ride Height

Thanks for sharing your experience! I first noticed the issue about a week ago during my morning commute. The height doesn't really change between cold starts and after driving, it's consistently uneven. Currently at 34,948 KM since my last service about 3 months ago. I've kept up with all regular maintenance, but this is the first time I'm seeing something like this. The bounce is especially noticeable on the right side. I'll definitely get that cable connection checked out, that's a way more reasonable fix than what I was worried about!
Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your Boxster. You know, hearing about the consistent unevenness and that it's more noticeable on the right side actually reminds me of something else from my experience with my '04 Cayman. Initially, I also thought it was just the sensor cable like I mentioned before, but after I had dealt with a few similar cases, I learned that when the height stays consistently uneven (especially on one side), it might also point to a worn-out shock absorber. In my case, after they fixed the cable connection, we still had some issues, and it turned out the right rear shock was actually on its way out. Since you mentioned the 34,948 KM mark, I'd suggest having your mechanic take a look at both the sensor connection AND the shock absorbers, particularly on that bouncy right side. Better to catch these things early, I learned that the hard way when I waited too long and ended up with a more expensive repair. By the way, have you noticed any knocking sounds when going over bumps? That might help narrow things down a bit more. Just trying to help you avoid the run-around I went through!
That's super helpful info, thanks! Yeah, now that you mention it, I have been hearing some faint knocking sounds over bumps on the right side. I just chalked it up to normal wear and tear, but I guess that could be another sign pointing to the shock absorber. I'll definitely have my mechanic check both issues when I take it in next week. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, saved me from potentially letting a bigger problem develop. Better to catch these things early than end up with a bigger repair bill down the line! I'll update the thread once I get it checked out in case anyone else runs into similar issues.
Hey there! I've got some experience with a similar issue on my '04 Cayman (also had a stint with a Porsche 911 before). I'd say I have some experience with these cars, mostly through dealing with various repairs over the years. Last year, I had almost identical symptoms, uneven ride height and bouncy ride. Turned out the cable connection to the level sensor was defective. Got it fixed at my local Porsche specialist for about 155 Euro. They basically had to replace the wiring harness to the sensor. But before I jump to conclusions, could you tell me a bit more about when you first noticed these symptoms? Also, does the height vary between cold starts and after driving for a while? This info would help confirm if you're dealing with the same issue I had.
