Bouncing Insignia Seeks Suspension Savior, Help Needed

Uneven Ride Height

|

Excessive Bouncing

Hey all, my 2016 Vauxhall Insignia (petrol, 237k km) has been giving me some trouble lately. One side sits noticeably lower than the other, and it's bouncing way more than it should on bumps. Pretty sure it's something with the height control system. Had a not-so-great experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would love to hear about your repair experiences and maybe get some recommendations for trustworthy mechanics who know their way around these issues. Thanks in advance!

Hey there, I had a similar issue with my 2013 Vauxhall Astra (1.6L petrol) last year. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced. In my case, it turned out to be a faulty height sensor cable connection on the rear suspension. The wire had corroded and was sending incorrect signals to the control unit. Took it to my local Vauxhall specialist and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. The repair involved replacing the sensor cable and recalibrating the system. It wasn't a major repair, but it did need special diagnostic equipment to reset everything properly. The car's been running perfectly since then, no more bouncing or uneven ride height. If you're near Manchester, I can recommend the garage I used. They mainly work on Vauxhalls and Vauxhalls, and they really know their stuff when it comes to these electronic suspension issues. Hope this helps!

Hey! Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know it was just the sensor cable in your case. I'm actually gonna get mine looked at next week. Just wondering, do you remember roughly how much the whole thing set you back? And has everything been smooth sailing since the repair, or have you noticed any other quirks pop up? Cheers!

Hey again! Glad to help! Just to update you, yes, everything's been absolutely spot on since I got it fixed. I actually just had it checked out because there was a "Restriction Height Control" warning, but that's all sorted now. They found it was the same issue, a dodgy cable connection to the sensor. Ran me about 155 Euro (the labor wasn't too bad since they knew exactly what to look for this time). I can honestly say it's been running like a dream since then, no more weird bouncing, the height's perfectly even, and the suspension's working just as it should. It's amazing what a small cable issue can do to these modern cars, right? But once it's fixed properly, you shouldn't have any more trouble with it. Best of luck with your repair next week! Let us know how it goes, always good to hear how these things turn out. Take care!

Hey! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my car! Finally got it sorted last week. You were spot on about it being sensor-related, but in my case, it turned out the entire height sensor needed replacing, not just the cable. Took it to a local specialist after your recommendation. They did a great job, really thorough diagnosis and clear explanation of what needed fixing. Bit pricier than your repair though, ended up costing me about 280 Euro with parts and labor. But honestly, worth every penny! The car's riding perfectly now, no more wonky suspension or bouncing around. Thanks again for your help, really appreciate you sharing your experience. It definitely made me feel more confident about getting it fixed. Funny how these electronic bits can cause such obvious physical problems, right? Cheers!
