Hey, thanks for sharing your experience. I had the same issue with my Z4, that main switch module is definitely a common weak point in these cars. Can I ask what the final cost was for your repair? Just trying to get an idea of what I might be looking at. Also, have you had any other electrical gremlins pop up since getting it fixed?
Hey there! Happy to give you an update. After seeing the mechanic, they found it was actually the window regulator that was acting up, not the switch module like in my initial diagnosis. The total cost came to 200 € for parts and labor, honestly not as bad as I was expecting! Since getting it fixed, my M2's power windows have been working perfectly. Haven't had a single electrical issue pop up, which is a huge relief. The repair shop did a really thorough job testing everything before I picked it up. They even double-checked all the other windows to make sure there weren't any potential problems lurking. My advice would definitely be to get it checked out sooner rather than later. These things can sometimes get worse if you leave them, and nobody wants to deal with stuck windows in bad weather! Let me know if you need any other info about the repair process.
Thanks for the detailed reply! I bit the bullet and took my Z4 to a mechanic yesterday. What a difference from my last experience! They actually found that my problem was a blown fuse and a corroded wire connection, way simpler than I feared. Only cost me about half of what you paid, and they fixed it while I waited. The mechanic was super professional, showed me exactly what was wrong, and even checked the other electrical systems just to be safe. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. My windows are working perfectly now, and they even got rid of that annoying squeaking noise the driver's side window used to make. Funny how we worry about these things being major issues, but sometimes it's just something simple. Thanks again for pushing me to get it checked out, you saved me from a lot more headaches down the road!
Just went through something similar with my 2018 BMW M2 last month. Had the exact same symptoms, all windows stopped responding and got error messages. Turned out it wasn't the regulator but the main power window switch module in the driver's door was faulty. The technician diagnosed it with proper BMW diagnostic tools. It wasn't a major repair, but definitely needed a professional with right equipment to fix it properly. The repair involved replacing the switch module and reprogramming the window control system. They also had to calibrate all windows after the fix. My car was ready in about 3 hours. Look for a shop that specializes in European cars and has proper BMW diagnostic equipment. Don't try the DIY route on this one, the programming part is crucial for proper operation.
