Thanks for sharing your experience! Really helpful to hear about a similar case. Mine's at 88442 KM and had its last service about two months ago. Yeah, the symptoms match up pretty well with what you described. I haven't scanned for codes yet, planning to do that tomorrow. Fuel consumption has definitely gotten worse lately, probably using about 15-20% more than usual. Also noticed a slight hesitation when accelerating, especially when the engine's cold. Sounds like the repair cost isn't too bad if it turns out to be the same issue. Did you use OEM parts for the sensor replacement? Just wondering if aftermarket parts are worth considering or if I should stick with original BMW parts.
Hey again! Yeah, those symptoms you're mentioning, especially the increased fuel consumption and cold start hesitation, are really similar to what I dealt with on my 5-series. About the parts, I actually went with OEM on mine. Thought about aftermarket to save some cash, but honestly, with BMW sensors, I've learned the hard way it's better to stick with original parts. Had a bad experience once with an aftermarket O2 sensor that gave me grief after just a few months. The OEM sensor might cost a bit more upfront, but it's worth it in the long run. Mine's been working perfectly for over a year now. Just make sure your mechanic gets the right part number, these BMWs can be pretty particular about their sensors. Definitely get those codes read first though. Would love to hear what they show up, might help confirm if we're dealing with the exact same issue. The fuel consumption increase you mentioned (15-20%) is pretty much spot on with what I experienced too. That's actually a really good indicator it might be the pressure sensor. Keep us posted about what the scan shows, yeah? Always interesting to compare notes on these Bimmers!
Thanks so much for all the detailed info! You've definitely convinced me to go with OEM parts, don't want to risk dealing with sensor issues again in a few months. Will stick with original BMW parts even if it costs a bit more. I'll get those codes read first thing tomorrow and update the thread. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, especially about the fuel consumption matching up with what I'm seeing. Makes me feel more confident about tackling this issue. Hopefully it'll be just the pressure sensor like in your case, and I can get back to enjoying the car properly again. Thanks again for all the help, this is exactly the kind of first-hand experience I was hoping to find when I posted! Will keep you updated on what the diagnostic shows.
I had a similar issue with my 2014 BMW 5-series (got some experience working on BMWs). The symptoms were basically identical to what you're describing, rough idle, stalling, the whole deal. After getting the codes read, it turned out to be a faulty fuel pressure sensor, just like you suspected. Took it to my regular workshop and they confirmed it. Had it fixed and it cost me around 240 Euro for parts and labor. Car's been running smoothly since then, the idle settled, power came back, and no more check engine light. Before you proceed though, could you share: Have you scanned for error codes? Any other symptoms I should know about? Has the fuel consumption changed? This could help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same issue. BMW sensors can be tricky, but once you get them sorted, they're usually good to go.
