Thanks so much for sharing your experience! This sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. It's really helpful to know someone else has gone through this. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the fix? Also, has everything been working fine since the repair, or have you had any other issues pop up? Thanks again for the detailed info!
Hey again! Happy to tell you that since getting it fixed at the BMW service center, everything's been working perfectly, no warning lights or false alarms whatsoever. The active hood system has been functioning just as it should, and I haven't had a single issue pop up since. Since you asked about the cost, I paid 315 € to get the acceleration sensor replaced and the system reset. Honestly, while it wasn't cheap, it was worth every penny for the peace of mind, knowing this important safety feature is working properly now. Sounds like you're experiencing the exact same problem I had. If your symptoms match mine, you'll probably be looking at a similar repair cost. The good thing is that once it's fixed, it really stays fixed, at least that's been my experience for the past year. Let me know how it goes once you get it sorted!
Thanks for all the details! I actually just got back from the BMW service center today. You were spot on, it was the acceleration sensor causing all the trouble. The whole experience wasn't as bad as I feared. The technician showed me the faulty sensor and explained everything clearly. Cost me about 340 €, so pretty close to what you paid. They had to order the part, but once it arrived, the repair only took a couple of hours. Just drove home and everything's working perfectly now, no more warning lights or error messages. Such a relief to have this sorted! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it helped me know what to expect and gave me confidence to get it fixed at the right place. Thanks again for all your help! Case closed on this one.
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2015 BMW M4 last year. The acceleration sensor that triggers the active hood system was showing defective readings. In my case, it was causing false triggers and those same warning lights you're describing. From my garage experience, this usually means either the sensor itself is faulty or there's been some minor impact that's confused the system. My mechanic had to reset the system and replace the acceleration sensor unit. It wasn't a major repair in terms of complexity, but it's definitely something that needs proper diagnosis and fixing since it's part of the safety system. The actuators being triggered is exactly what happened to my car too. Once they deploy, they need to be reset or replaced, can't just ignore it. The good news is that it's not an engine or transmission issue, but since it's a safety feature, you'll want to get it sorted soon. Best bet is to get it checked at a certified BMW service center. This isn't really something for a general mechanic since it requires specific diagnostic tools for the BMW safety systems. Hope this helps!
