Thanks for sharing your experience! I've got 186300 KM on the clock and did get increased fuel consumption lately. I'm getting error code P0113 from my OBD reader. The car definitely feels sluggish, especially during hard acceleration. The idling is actually fine though. Good to hear your fix was straightforward, gives me hope it won't break the bank! Did you go with an OEM sensor or aftermarket? I might try the same workshop that did my last service if they're familiar with this issue.
Hey again! Yeah, that P0113 code is exactly what I had on my M4, it's the classic indicator for a malfunctioning intake air temperature sensor. With those symptoms and the same error code, I'm even more convinced it's identical to what I dealt with. For the sensor, I actually went with OEM after learning my lesson with aftermarket parts. Initially tried a cheaper aftermarket one first (trying to save some cash, you know?), but it didn't last more than a month before the same issues came back. Ended up spending more in the long run because I had to replace it again with the OEM part. So I'd definitely recommend going straight for the genuine BMW part. The increased fuel consumption you're noticing makes total sense, when the sensor's faulty, the engine management system can't optimize the fuel mixture properly. Once I got mine fixed with the OEM sensor, fuel economy went back to normal within a tank or two. Your mileage is pretty close to what mine was when it happened (I was at about 175000 KM). It's actually a pretty common wear item at that kind of mileage from what I've learned. Let me know how it goes if you get it fixed, always curious to hear if others have the same experience!
Thanks everyone for the helpful replies! I've decided to go ahead and book my Z4 in for next week. After hearing about your experiences, especially with the aftermarket parts issue, I'm definitely going with the OEM sensor. No point trying to save a few bucks now just to pay more later! Fuel consumption has gotten even worse this week, so I'm pretty confident this is the exact same problem you had with your M4. I'll make sure to let them know about the P0113 code when I take it in. Really appreciate all the advice about going with the genuine BMW part, that monthly replacement situation you had sounds like a real hassle! I'll save myself the headache and do it right the first time. Great to know it should be a pretty straightforward fix. I was worried it might be something more serious when the power dropped, but this sounds manageable. Will definitely update you all once it's sorted. Thanks again for sharing your experiences, really helped put my mind at ease about this whole situation!
Hey there! I've had some experience working on cars and went through something really similar with my 2015 BMW M4 last year. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I dealt with. I took it to my regular workshop, and they diagnosed it as a faulty intake air temperature sensor. The fix wasn't too complicated, they replaced the sensor, cleared the codes, and everything went back to normal. Total cost was around 155 Euro, which included parts and labor. Before jumping to conclusions though, what kind of error code are you getting? Also, have you noticed any other symptoms like rough idling or increased fuel consumption? Knowing these details would help confirm if it's the same issue I had. If it turns out to be the same problem, just make sure you get a quality replacement sensor. BMW vehicles can be pretty sensitive to aftermarket parts, learned that from experience with my previous 3 Series.
