BMW Z4 engine and transmission problems

Transmission slips/shifts erratically

Hello everyone, I have a BMW Z4 and I am experiencing several problems. When I start the engine when cold, there are popping noises, similar to popcorn. As the engine warms up, the noises diminish but do not go away completely. Also, the car shakes at idle and I'm not sure if this could be related to a high flow filter and a catalytic converter exhaust I have installed. On the other hand, the transmission, which is an SMG 2, feels very unstable. It bounces when shifting out of first gear and at stoplights, when I'm in first gear, it shifts into neutral. Has anyone experienced these problems or have any suggestions as to what might be causing them? I would appreciate any help.

Start by checking for any vacuum leaks, as these can cause popping noises and rough idling. Inspect hoses and connections for any signs of wear or damage. If the issue persists, it might be worth checking the spark plugs and ignition coils, as they can also cause similar symptoms. For the transmission issue, ensure the transmission fluid is at the correct level and in good condition. If problems continue, it may be best to have a professional inspect the SMG system. Let me know how it goes or if you have further questions!
