Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. I'll definitely get the battery and terminals checked first before diving into more complex solutions. Would you mind sharing how much the repair ended up costing you? Also, has everything been working properly since the fix, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks pop up?
Hey again! Really glad I could help with the battery advice. Since visiting my BMW specialist, everything's been running perfectly smooth, including that pesky Transport Mode issue that's now completely resolved. The best part? Since my Z4 was still under warranty, I didn't have to pay anything for the fix. All the electrical systems have been working flawlessly since then, navigation, power windows, everything. It's like having a brand new car again! No more unusual shutdowns or weird electrical quirks. Just goes to show how a seemingly complex problem can sometimes have a pretty straightforward solution. If your car's out of warranty, I'd still recommend getting it checked soon though. These electrical issues can snowball if left unchecked, and you definitely want to catch them early. Keep us posted on how it goes with your Z3!
Thanks for the follow-up! I just got back from a certified mechanic who specializes in BMWs. You were spot on, it was indeed a battery issue combined with some corroded connections. The repair cost me around 400 bucks including labor, but honestly, it was worth every penny. The car's running like a dream now. The mechanic was really thorough and explained everything clearly. Not like my previous guy who just kept giving me the runaround. He even showed me the old battery and connections, they were in pretty bad shape! It's such a relief to have everything working properly again. The navigation system fired right up, and all those weird electrical glitches have completely disappeared. Thanks again for steering me in the right direction. It saved me from possibly spending way more on unnecessary repairs. I'll definitely keep an eye on the battery readings from now on to avoid similar issues in the future.
I had a similar issue with my 2004 BMW Z4 last month. The electrical gremlins started with the navigation system shutting down, then spread to other systems. Turned out the main battery was severely degraded and wasn't providing stable voltage to the electrical systems. Had to get a new battery installed and the technician also found corroded battery terminals. They cleaned the connections and replaced some damaged wiring near the battery housing. This was quite a serious issue since bad voltage can damage other electrical components if left unchecked. After the fix, all systems came back to normal, including the navigation. Make sure you get a proper diagnosis, look for a specialist who knows BMWs well. These electrical issues usually aren't something you can fix yourself.
