Thanks for sharing your experience! My XM has 53099 KM on it from the latest service, and I'm actually hearing a faint buzzing when I try to use the washers. It's definitely not as loud as it used to be. No specific error code showing up, just a general "washer fluid system malfunction" message on the display. Will double-check the fluid level again just to be extra sure, but I'm thinking it might be more than just an empty reservoir since I can see the fluid in there. Getting a bit worried it could be the pump itself starting to fail. Has anyone else experienced a gradual decrease in the pump sound before complete failure?
Hey again! Thanks for the additional info about the buzzing sound. You know, this actually reminds me even more of what happened with my X6 a while back. After reading your latest message, I realize I didn't tell you the whole story of my experience. Before my washer system completely died, I noticed that same faint buzzing sound you're describing. It went on for about a week or two, getting progressively weaker until it finally gave up completely. At first, I also thought it was just low fluid since that's usually the simple fix, but nope! Turns out the pump was actually starting to fail, and some debris had gotten into the system. When they took it apart, they found tiny particles clogging up the pump. The mechanic mentioned this is pretty common in our BMW models, the pump's intake filter can get blocked over time. In my case, they ended up replacing the pump assembly since it was already worn. Cost a bit more than just the fluid top-up I mentioned before, but it fixed the issue completely. The new pump makes that nice, strong sound again when it sprays. Since you're hearing that weak buzzing, I'd bet you're dealing with the same problem. Might want to get it checked soon before it dies completely, especially with winter coming up. Keep us posted on what you find out!
Thanks everyone for the help! After hearing about these similar experiences, especially with the weak buzzing sound, I'm definitely going to take it to the shop tomorrow. Really appreciate the detailed explanation about the pump and debris issue, makes total sense why mine might be failing too. The car's still under warranty, so hopefully that'll cover any pump replacement if needed. Pretty relieved to know it's probably not something super complicated or unusual. Will definitely update once I get it checked out. Just hoping it won't take too long to fix since I've got some long drives planned next week. Thanks again for sharing your experiences, definitely helped me understand what might be going on with my XM!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW X6 last month. I have some basic car maintenance experience, mostly the simple stuff. The same thing happened, no washer fluid coming out despite the tank showing fluid. Turned out the fluid level sensor was giving false readings, and the tank was actually bone dry! Took it to my regular workshop, and they did a quick check. Added fresh washer fluid, ran a system test, and everything worked perfectly after that. Total bill was just 25 Euro for the fluid and labor. Such a relief it wasn't something more serious with the pump! Mind sharing if you're getting any specific error code on your dash? Also, can you hear the pump trying to work when you activate the washers? This info would help pinpoint if you're dealing with the same simple fix or something else.
