Thanks for sharing your experience! Currently at 23097 KM and just had my latest service. My symptoms started pretty suddenly, like literally on my way back from work last week. Haven't spotted any fluid leaks, though I've been checking the driveway regularly since this started. Good call on the warranty, I'll definitely check that out before paying anything out of pocket. The grinding noise is really concerning me, so I'll probably take it in this week. Did your repair come with any kind of warranty from the shop?
Oh hey again! Yeah, when I had my X6 M fixed, the shop actually gave me a 12-month warranty on both parts and labor. That was really reassuring, especially given the cost of the repair. The sudden onset of symptoms you're describing sounds exactly like what happened to me. Mine also went from perfectly fine to "what the heck?" in basically one drive. The grinding noise was what really pushed me to get it checked out ASAP, definitely don't want to risk more damage to the transmission. Since you're at 23097 KM and it's a 2022 model, you should absolutely be covered under the factory warranty. That would've saved me a bundle on my repair bill! My torque converter failed at around 68000 KM, just outside the warranty period (talk about bad timing). Quick tip though, make sure you document everything, including when the symptoms started and any error codes if you can get them. The more info you can give to the service department, the better. When I had mine fixed, I actually recorded a video of the grinding noise on my phone, which helped the techs diagnose it faster. Let me know how it goes with the warranty check, I'm curious to hear what they say!
Thanks so much for all the detailed advice! I've already started documenting everything, took videos of the grinding noise and saved screenshots of the error codes from my OBD scanner. Just checked my warranty status online and I'm definitely still covered, which is a huge relief after hearing about your repair costs! Gonna call the dealership first thing tomorrow and get this sorted. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it's made me feel a lot better about the whole situation. I'll have to remember your tip about recording the sounds, that's super smart for helping with diagnosis. Will definitely update once I know what's going on with mine. Thanks again for all your help!
Hi there! I've got some experience with BMWs and transmissions. I had a very similar issue with my 2020 BMW X6 M, and boy, do I feel your pain! The symptoms you're describing are exactly what I experienced, sluggish acceleration, grinding during shifts, warning lights, the whole deal. Turned out to be a faulty torque converter on mine. I took it to a specialized transmission workshop, and they confirmed it through diagnostic testing. The repair included replacing the entire torque converter, and it set me back about 2120 Euro. After the fix, the car ran like new again. No more grinding, smooth shifts, and all warning lights gone. The whole repair took about 3-4 days including parts delivery. Before I can give more specific advice, could you share: Current mileage? When did the symptoms first appear? Have you noticed any transmission fluid leaks? Any previous transmission services? By the way, if you're experiencing this in a 2022 model, definitely check your warranty status. Unlike my X6 M, yours might still be covered!
