BMW XM Tire Sensor Warning: Fix and Cost Guide

Error message in the speedometer

Tire pressure to low

|

Fault stored

Hi all! Having some trouble with my 2022 BMW XM (gas) at 179,515 km. Getting constant low tire pressure warnings, plus a warning light on the dash. Checked the error codes and seems like a tire pressure sensor issue. Last mechanic visit wasn't great, so looking for advice before taking it back in. Has anyone dealt with similar sensor problems on their XM? What was your repair experience like and what did it cost? Any trustworthy mechanic recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had the same problem with my 2019 BMW X6 last month at around 165K km. The TPMS sensors were acting up, giving false readings and unusual warnings. Got it checked at my garage and turns out the sensor batteries were dead, they typically last 5-7 years before needing replacement. The mechanic had to replace all four TPMS sensors since they were all from the same manufacturing batch and were likely to fail soon anyway. Not a serious issue mechanically, just an annoying electronic thing that needs fixing to keep the monitoring system working properly. The job took about an hour since they had to dismount the tires to replace the sensors and then reprogram the new ones to sync with the car's computer. Fair warning, don't ignore it though, as faulty sensors mean you won't get accurate tire pressure readings, which can be unsafe in the long run. Best of luck with the repair!

Hey again! Thanks for sharing your experience with the TPMS sensors. Mine sounds exactly like what you went through. Would you mind telling me roughly what you paid for the full job? Also curious if you've had any other sensor issues pop up since getting it fixed? Thanks!

Hey there again! Just wanted to update you on my X6's TPMS situation, got it all sorted for 280 € and it's been working perfectly since. The mechanic confirmed it was indeed just dead sensor batteries, exactly like I suspected. The replacement was pretty straightforward and I haven't had a single warning light or false reading since the fix. To answer your question about other sensor issues, nope, absolutely nothing else has popped up! The car's running smooth as silk. I'm actually really glad I got it fixed when I did because it's such a relief not having those annoying warnings constantly flashing on the dash anymore. Since you mentioned your XM is having the same symptoms, it sounds like you're dealing with the same thing. If it helps, the repair price I mentioned included both parts and labor, and they had it done in about an hour. Definitely worth getting it sorted, driving without proper tire pressure monitoring isn't something you want to mess with. Let me know how it goes when you get yours fixed!

Thanks so much for all the info! I took your advice and got my XM checked out yesterday. You were spot on, it was the TPMS sensors. Funny enough, my repair cost was almost identical to yours. The mechanic was super efficient and got all four sensors replaced and reprogrammed in about an hour. What a relief not seeing those warning lights anymore! The constant alerts were driving me crazy. The mechanic also mentioned I did the right thing getting them all replaced at once since they were from the same batch. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. Saved me a lot of worry about whether I was getting ripped off or if there was a bigger issue. Car's running perfectly now and the tire pressure readings are finally accurate. Guess that's one maintenance task I won't have to worry about for another 5-7 years! Thanks again for your help with this!
