Hey, thanks so much for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the wiring harness, never would've thought that could be the culprit. Could I ask how much the repair ended up costing you? Also curious if you've had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? My tailgate's still giving me grief and I want to make sure I'm prepared for what might come!
Hey there! Just wanted to follow up about my X7 tailgate situation. I actually went ahead and took it to the mechanic last week, and I've got some good news! Turns out it wasn't the wiring harness after all, it was just a faulty hall sensor like you initially suspected with yours. The fix was pretty straightforward, they found a bad cable connection to the sensor and sorted it out. Total cost came to 95 € which honestly wasn't as painful as I was expecting. The best part? The tailgate's working perfectly now, no more error messages or wonky behavior when trying to open or close it. It's been about a week since the repair and everything's still working like a charm. I was pretty relieved it wasn't anything more serious like I originally thought with the wiring harness. Sometimes the simpler explanation is the right one, I guess! Let me know if you end up getting yours checked out, would be interesting to hear if it's the same issue.
Thanks for the update on your repair! I actually bit the bullet and took mine to a different mechanic yesterday. Talk about a totally different experience! This guy really knew his stuff, took one look at the tailgate and diagnosed the issue right away. Funny enough, my problem turned out to be something completely different. There was a loose connection in the latch mechanism that was causing all the drama. The mechanic showed me how some dirt had gotten in there and messed with the electrical contacts. He cleaned it out, tightened everything up, and ran a full diagnostic check. Only paid 75 € for the whole thing, including labor. Been working perfectly since then, no more error messages or stuck tailgate! Really glad I decided to try a new mechanic. Sometimes you just need to find the right mechanic for the job. Appreciate you sharing your experience, it definitely gave me the push I needed to get this sorted out. Guess we both learned something about these tricky BMW electronics!
@marcodangelo
blue cable was broken from the donor .repaired .soldered together .see there works
It's great that you managed to identify and repair the broken blue cable. Make sure to check the surrounding cables for any additional wear or damage to prevent future issues. If you notice any further problems or have questions, feel free to ask!
I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW X7 (gas engine) last month. The tailgate was acting exactly the same way, inconsistent opening/closing and error messages. Turned out it wasn't the hall sensor in my case. The main problem was a damaged wiring harness where the cables run between the body and the tailgate. The constant opening and closing had worn through some of the protective covering, causing intermittent connection issues. Got it checked at the garage and they found several pinched wires near the hinge area. While it wasn't a major mechanical problem, it required careful work to replace the wiring harness and ensure proper routing to prevent future wear. The job took about 3-4 hours. From my experience, I'd suggest having someone check the wiring connections first before replacing any sensors. These kind of electrical issues can be tricky to diagnose without proper testing equipment.
