Thanks for sharing your experience! Glad to hear you got it sorted out. My BMW XM is going into the shop tomorrow for this cooling fan issue. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the sensor and control module replacement? Also, have you had any other cooling-related problems pop up since getting it fixed? It's a relief to know I'm not the only one who's dealt with this.

Hey again! Great to hear back from you! After getting my X7 M50i fixed up at the garage, everything's been running like a dream. The radiator fan is working perfectly now, no more overheating issues at all. The speed sensor replacement set me back about 250€, which wasn't as bad as I initially feared. Haven't had a single cooling-related problem since the repair, which is exactly what you want to hear, right? The temperature gauge stays right where it should be, even during those longer drives. It's such a relief not having to worry about that anymore. This kind of thing can be pretty nerve-wracking when it first happens, but once it's fixed, you're usually good to go. Just make sure they do a thorough check while they're in there. Keep us posted on how your XM repair goes tomorrow, always interested to hear how these things turn out!

Got my car back from the shop today, and I'm honestly relieved! The mechanic I found was really thorough, turns out it wasn't just the fan but also needed a new control module, just like your case. Ended up costing me around 300€, which wasn't too terrible considering what could've gone wrong if I'd left it unfixed. The whole repair process was actually smoother than I expected. Dropped it off in the morning, and they had everything sorted by late afternoon. The mechanic walked me through exactly what they did and even showed me the old parts. Really appreciated their transparency after my previous bad experience with that other shop. Took it for a test drive, and the temperature gauge is staying exactly where it should. No more check engine light, and the fan kicks in perfectly now. Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me know what to expect and gave me confidence to get it sorted quickly!

Hey there! I can relate to your cooling system concerns. I have a 2020 BMW X7 M50i, and last month I faced a similar issue. The speed sensor on my cooling fan was defective, causing the fan to stop working completely. The check engine light was indeed a good indicator of the problem. Took it to my regular garage, and they diagnosed it properly, it wasn't just the fan itself, but the control module was also affected. The whole system needed proper diagnostics because these cooling issues can potentially cause serious engine damage if left unchecked. In my case, they had to replace both the sensor and the control module. It wasn't a quick fix, took about two days to get the parts and complete the repair, but it's been running perfectly since then. The temperature gauge now stays exactly where it should. These cooling system issues aren't something to put off, better to get it checked sooner rather than later. The symptoms you're describing sound very similar to what I experienced. Hope this helps!
