BMW XM Multiple Warning Lights, Oil Sensor Issues?

Oil light on

Hi all, need help with my 2023 BMW XM. Getting multiple warnings including oil pressure and measurement errors. The speedometer shows error messages and warning lights. Oil level reading is completely gone. Suspecting a faulty oil level sensor but not entirely sure. Has anyone dealt with similar issues? Would appreciate hearing about your repair experiences and what the actual problem turned out to be. What did your workshop do to fix it? Thanks in advance for any insights!

Hey there! I have some experience working on BMWs and had a similar issue with my 2021 BMW X6 M. Those warning lights can definitely be nerve-wracking! I got multiple errors too, and initially thought it was the oil sensor. Turned out it was actually just a faulty wiring connection to the sensor module. The cables had worked loose over time causing those unusual warnings. Took it to my regular workshop and they diagnosed it pretty quickly. The fix wasn't too complex, they basically had to reconnect and secure the wiring properly. Cost me about 95 Euro for the whole thing. Before I can suggest anything specific though, could you share: Any particular patterns when the warnings appear? (like when starting the car or during driving), Have you noticed any actual performance issues? Are you getting any specific error codes? This could help narrow down if you're dealing with the same issue I had or something else.

Just had my car serviced at 185745 KM and wanted to share my experience. Mine showed the exact same symptoms, multiple warnings, oil pressure alerts, and that annoying speedometer error. After dealing with those nerve-racking warning lights, turned out it wasn't the oil sensor at all. The mechanic found corroded connections in the main wiring harness that connects to the sensor module. They cleaned up the connections, applied some dielectric grease, and properly secured everything. Full diagnostic check revealed no other issues. Car's been running perfectly since then, no more warning lights or errors. Total repair took about 2 hours. Hope this helps with your troubleshooting!

Hey again! Thanks for sharing your repair experience, that's really helpful to know! You know, it's funny because my X6 M had almost identical symptoms at around 180,000 km. When I first replied to you, I was pretty convinced it was just loose wiring in my case, but after seeing your update, I'm actually thinking these corroded connections might be a more common issue in these models than we thought. Makes total sense now, the corrosion would definitely explain why both our cars showed those multiple system warnings and oil pressure alerts. My mechanic initially just reconnected everything, but I bet if they'd checked more carefully, they would've found some corrosion too. Probably why the issue came back briefly before they did a more thorough fix. Really glad you got it sorted! It's such a relief when these things turn out to be relatively straightforward fixes rather than major sensor replacements. My car's also been running perfectly since the proper repair. Seems like these BMWs are pretty sensitive to electrical connection issues, but at least it's something that can be fixed without breaking the bank. Thanks for the follow-up, it's actually helped me understand my own car's issue better too!

Thanks for your detailed response! Yeah, it's really interesting how similar our experiences were. When I first posted about this issue, I was seriously worried it might be something major with the sensor itself or even engine problems. Seeing your initial reply about the wiring made me feel a bit better, but I was still nervous until they actually found the root cause. You're absolutely right about these being sensitive to electrical issues, my mechanic mentioned the same thing. He said the newer BMW models have such complex electronics that even small connection problems can trigger multiple warnings. Kind of makes sense but still scary when it happens! The best part is that it wasn't nearly as expensive as I'd feared. Originally thought I might need to replace the entire sensor module, which would've cost a fortune. Instead, just needed some thorough cleaning and maintenance of those connections. Made me realize how important it is to keep those electrical connections clean and protected. Anyway, thanks again for your help! Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, definitely helped calm my nerves while I was dealing with all those warning lights!

Let our mechanics help you!
