BMW XM Multiple System Errors, SOS Module Issue?

Error message in the speedometer

Hey everyone, having a weird issue with my 2022 BMW XM. The speedometer's showing error messages, nav screen's stuck with a permanent message, and there's a warning light on the dash. Also found some stored error codes. I suspect it might be related to the emergency call system. Has anyone dealt with something similar? What did your workshop do to fix it? Would really appreciate hearing about your experiences and repair solutions.

Hi there! I have some experience with BMWs and had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW X6. The symptoms were almost identical, error messages on the dash, nav system acting up, and warning lights. My mechanic found it was indeed a faulty cable connection to the emergency call module. The connectors had gotten loose over time, causing all these electronic gremlins. The fix wasn't too complicated, they had to remove some trim panels, locate the module, and replace the damaged cables and connectors. Cost me around 95 Euro for the whole job. Can you share more details about when these issues started? Have you noticed any pattern, like does it happen after the car sits for a while or when it rains? Also, did you scan for specific error codes? This info would help confirm if you're dealing with the same problem I had. By the way, the X7 from the same year had similar connection issues too, so it's not uncommon in this model range.

Thanks for sharing your experience! My XM's been giving me these headaches for about a week now. I've got 50047 KM on the clock and just had my service last month. It's happening out of nowhere, not tied to weather or sitting time. I did a quick scan and got error codes related to the communication system, so you might be onto something with that cable connection theory. Honestly, it's quite annoying when these high-tech features act up. I'll probably take it to the workshop next week to check those connections you mentioned. Just hoping it won't be anything more serious than what you dealt with.

Hey again! Thanks for the update on your XM's situation. You know, after I had my X6 fixed, I actually had a similar issue pop up again about six months later, but it was slightly different. The second time, it turned out that water had gotten into one of the connectors because a small rubber seal had deteriorated, something my mechanic missed during the first repair. Based on your mileage and the unusual nature of the problem, I'm thinking it could be the same deal. My suggestion would be to have them check all the seals around the emergency call module while they're in there. It's a bit frustrating, but better to fix everything properly the first time around. When I had the second repair done, they ended up replacing all the seals and adding some extra protection against moisture. Haven't had a single issue since then. Just make sure they document everything they find, it helped me when I had to go back the second time. Also, keep an eye on those error codes. If you're getting the same ones I had (specifically the communication system ones), it's pretty much a dead giveaway. Would be interested to hear what they find when you take it in next week.

Thanks so much for all that detailed info, especially about the second repair. That's really good to know about the seals, I'll definitely mention that when I take it in. You're right about documenting everything too, that's such a smart move. I've just checked the error codes again and they're looking pretty similar to what you described. I'm actually feeling a bit more confident about getting this fixed now, knowing exactly what to ask them to check. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, especially about that follow-up issue you had. I'll update the thread once I get it sorted out next week, might help someone else dealing with the same problem down the line. These complex systems can be a real pain sometimes, but at least it sounds like there's a proper fix for it!

Let our mechanics help you!
