BMW XM Engine Issues: Injection System Problems?

Poor fuel economy

|

Stalling while idling

|

Black smoke from exhaust on acceleration

|

Loss of engine power

Hi all! Having trouble with my 2023 BMW XM. Engine's acting up with jerking, high fuel consumption, and power loss. It stalls at idle and produces smoke during acceleration. I suspect the injection system might be the culprit. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Really interested in hearing about repair experiences and workshop solutions before I take it in. Want to make sure I'm heading in the right direction with the diagnosis. Thanks in advance for your input!

Hey there! I've got some experience with BMWs (some experience with different models). Had a similar issue with my 2021 BMW X6 last year. The symptoms you're describing sound very familiar, I was dealing with exactly the same problems with jerking and power loss. Turned out to be a faulty connection in one of the fuel injector plugs. Got it fixed at my regular workshop, they diagnosed it pretty quickly. The repair involved replacing some wiring and a connector, cost me about 95 Euro. Since then, my X6 has been running smoothly. Could be the same issue with your XM, but it'd help if you could share: Current mileage? When did these symptoms first appear? Have you noticed any warning lights? Are you running regular maintenance schedule? Feel free to let me know these details so I can share more specific insights from my experience with the X6 and what I learned about similar issues in the X7 (my owns one).

Thanks for sharing your experience! My XM has 22835 KM and had its last service about three months ago. No warning lights yet, but the symptoms started appearing gradually over the past two weeks. The car's been properly maintained according to schedule, which makes this even more frustrating. Interesting that you mention the fuel injector plugs, did your mechanic mention if this is a common issue with newer BMW models? I'm thinking of taking it to the workshop this week, but wanted to gather some more insights from the community first.

Hey again! Thanks for those details about your XM. Yeah, after dealing with my X6's issues, I learned quite a bit about these problems. When my mechanic fixed mine, he actually mentioned that faulty injector connections are becoming more common in newer BMW models, especially as they get more sophisticated with their fuel management systems. In my case, the symptoms also developed gradually like yours, started with occasional jerking, then the fuel consumption went up, and finally got the smoke during acceleration. What's interesting is that my X6 also didn't show any warning lights initially, which made it pretty confusing. Since you mentioned your XM's mileage is at 22835 KM, it's actually quite similar to when my issues started (I was around 25000 KM). Given how similar our situations are, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked soon. When I waited too long, the symptoms got worse pretty quickly. The good news is that if it's the same issue I had, it's a relatively straightforward fix. One tip though, when you take it in, make sure they check all the injector connections, not just the obviously faulty ones. In my case, they found two that were starting to show wear even though only one was causing problems. Keep us posted on what you find out, I'm really curious if it turns out to be the same issue. Always good to share these experiences so we can help each other out!

Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up! You've actually made me feel a lot better about the situation. It's really helpful to know that you experienced such similar symptoms, especially around the same mileage point. I'll definitely take your advice about getting all the injector connections checked, seems like it could save me from future headaches. I've just called the workshop and booked it in for tomorrow morning. I'll be sure to mention the injector connection issue you had with your X6. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience in such detail, it's exactly the kind of first-hand insight I was hoping for when I posted here. Will definitely update the thread once I get the diagnosis. Thanks again for your help, it's great to have such helpful feedback from someone who's been through the same thing!
