Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful, especially about the fluid levels being the culprit. Mine's acting exactly the same way. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the fix? Also, have you had any other transmission issues pop up since getting it repaired? Just want to know what I might be in for cost-wise and if this could be a recurring problem. Thanks a bunch!
Hey again! Just wanted to follow up since I dealt with the same issue earlier. Happy to report that after getting it checked out, it was indeed the faulty transmission oil temperature sensor causing all that drama, just like I suspected. They also found the gearbox oil level was running too low, which explained those nasty grinding noises we both experienced. The total bill came to 365 € to sort everything out, which honestly wasn't as bad as I was expecting given all the warning lights and scary noises! The best part? Haven't had a single transmission problem since getting it fixed, my X6 M50i is running smooth as butter now. It's such a relief not seeing those warning lights anymore! Trust me, once you get this sorted, you'll feel so much better. My transmission shifts like a dream now, no more of that rough stuff we were dealing with. Definitely worth every penny to get it properly diagnosed and fixed rather than letting it get worse. Just make sure they do a thorough check of both the sensor and the oil levels, that combination seems to be the sweet spot for fixing these symptoms.
Thanks for the detailed update! Really glad to hear it worked out well for you. Just got back from the mechanic myself, and you were spot on about getting it checked quickly. Turned out my issue was pretty similar, a faulty sensor and low transmission fluid. The total repair cost was about 400 with parts and labor, which wasn't nearly as bad as I'd feared. The mechanic was actually pretty great, explained everything clearly and showed me exactly what was wrong. The difference in how it drives now is like night and day! No more warning lights, smooth shifting, and that horrible grinding noise is completely gone. Think I've found my new go-to mechanic too, way better than my last experience. Really appreciate everyone's help and advice on this. Definitely saved me from some unnecessary stress and potentially bigger problems down the road!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW X6 M50i last year. The symptoms you're describing match exactly what I experienced, warning lights, rough shifting, and that awful grinding noise. My issue turned out to be seriously low transmission fluid, caused by a slow leak from a cracked seal. The temp sensor was giving false readings because of the low fluid level. Got it fixed at the dealership by replacing the seal and doing a complete transmission fluid flush and refill. The tricky part with these symptoms is they could point to either a simple fluid issue or something more serious with the transmission internals. Mine was caught early enough to prevent major damage, but the mechanic said it could've gotten much worse if left unchecked. When talking to your mechanic, ask them to specifically check the transmission fluid level and condition first, plus all the seals around the transmission. It's usually better to rule out the simple stuff before diving into more complex repairs. Best to get this looked at quickly, these transmissions don't like running with low fluid levels.
