Hey again Thanks for sharing your experience with the X5. Really helpful to know it wasn't anything too serious in your case. Would you mind telling me roughly how much you ended up paying for the repair? Also curious if you've had any other cooling-related issues pop up since they fixed it? Cheers!
Hey there! Happy to help! After I posted about my X5 issue last month, I took it to a mechanic who sorted everything out nicely. The total bill came to 95 € to fix that pesky cable connection problem. They also topped up the coolant which had gotten a bit low, that was included in the price. Since the repair, everything's been running smooth as silk, no more warning lights or cooling issues whatsoever. The temperature gauge stays right where it should be, and the engine's purring along perfectly. It's such a relief when these things turn out to be relatively simple fixes! I know how nerve-wracking these warning lights can be, especially after bad experiences with mechanics. But honestly, getting it sorted quickly was definitely the right call. Saves a lot of headache in the long run. Let me know how yours turns out! Best regards
Hey! Thanks for all the advice, it really helped! I bit the bullet and took my X7 to a mechanic yesterday. Turns out it was actually pretty similar to your issue, a faulty sensor connection and low coolant level. They fixed the wiring, replaced the sensor, and topped up the coolant. The whole thing cost me about 120 €, which wasn't too bad considering how worried I was! The mechanic I found was really professional and took the time to explain everything. They even showed me what was wrong before fixing it. Both warning lights are now off, and the car's running perfectly again. Such a relief it wasn't anything major! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the confidence to get it sorted quickly instead of waiting around worrying about it. Sometimes these fancy cars just need a bit of simple TLC! Thanks again for all your help! Cheers!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2016 BMW X5 last month. The coolant temp and check engine lights came on simultaneously, and the diagnostic revealed it was actually a faulty wiring connection to the coolant temperature sensor. The plug had corroded and wasn't making proper contact. The repair wasn't too complex, they cleaned the connector, replaced the damaged wiring section, and installed a new sensor. It wasn't a serious issue, but leaving it unfixed could've led to engine overheating problems. The car's been running perfectly since the fix. I'd recommend getting it checked soon though, those warning lights shouldn't be ignored, even if the coolant level looks fine. Also make sure they scan for any stored error codes, as these can point directly to the problem. Take care
