Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since I'm dealing with pretty much the exact same symptoms. Your situation sounds spot on with what I'm experiencing. Could you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, just curious, have you had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? I was stressing about potentially having to replace the engine mount, but hearing your story gives me some hope it might just be the ignition coils and wiring. Definitely less scary than what I was imagining!
Hey again! Happy to give you an update on my X5 situation. Actually, I just got back from the mechanic last week, turned out I did have a defective engine mount that needed fixing, which was causing some of those vibrations we talked about. They also found and fixed a dodgy cable connection while they were at it. The cable/connection repair was pretty reasonable at 95€. Such a relief it wasn't anything more serious! Since getting both issues sorted, my car's running like a dream, no more weird vibrations or check engine lights to worry about. You mentioned being concerned about your engine mount, definitely get it checked out sooner rather than later. These things can get worse if you leave them too long. I totally get being nervous about finding a good mechanic (been there!), but catching problems early usually saves money in the long run. Let me know how you get on with yours, always interested to hear how these things turn out!
Thanks so much for the follow-up! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my X7. Finally got it checked out yesterday and you won't believe it, it was actually both problems! Had a faulty ignition coil and a worn engine mount. The mechanic I found was great. Really took the time to explain everything and show me what was wrong. The coil replacement was pretty quick and straightforward. The engine mount took a bit longer but honestly, the whole thing wasn't nearly as expensive as I'd feared. The car's running perfectly now, no more vibrations or rough idle. Such a relief! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it gave me the push I needed to get it sorted before it got worse. Funny how we ended up having such similar issues! The whole repair took about four hours and the mechanic was super professional. Much better experience than my last one. Sometimes it just takes a bad experience to help you find a good one, right? Thanks again for all your help with this!
Had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW X5 40i last year. Initially thought it was the engine mount too, but turned out to be a much simpler fix. The rough idle and vibrations were caused by a faulty ignition coil and loose connection in the wiring harness. Took it to the shop and they diagnosed it by checking the error codes. Had to replace two ignition coils and repair the wiring connection. Not a major repair, but definitely something you want to address soon to prevent further issues. My symptoms were identical, rough idle, vibrations, and check engine light. Fixing the cable connections and replacing those coils solved it completely. Been running smooth since then. While it wasn't a serious problem, ignoring it could have led to bigger issues down the line. Hope this helps with your situation, might be worth checking those ignition components before assuming it's the engine mount.
