Thanks for the detailed reply! Just to add to the discussion, mine is completely dead all the time, no intermittent function at all. Haven't had any other electrical issues, and this started happening right after my last service at 173,927 KM. Haven't done any recent software updates that I know of. It's a bit frustrating since I've maintained it pretty regularly, and this is my first major issue. I'm hoping it's something simple like in your case, rather than a full system replacement. Have scheduled a dealer visit next week, but wanted to get some community insights first to know what I might be dealing with.

Hey again! Looking at your latest details, it sounds exactly like what I experienced with my X5. The fact that it started right after your service really rings a bell, same thing happened to me around the 170K mark. When mine went completely dead like yours (no intermittent function), it turned out the service center had actually triggered something during their routine diagnostics. Since you mentioned regular maintenance, I doubt it's a wiring issue. My money's still on that main control unit I mentioned before. The symptoms are just too similar, complete blackout, no response, right after service. Trust me, I was really worried at first too, thinking it might be something major. Just to add to my previous response, when my dealer did the fix, they also mentioned they're seeing this issue more frequently in our model years. The good news is they've got a pretty standardized fix now. Mine's been running perfectly since the repair, no problems at all. Quick tip though, when you go to the dealer next week, mention specifically about the timing with the service. That helped speed up my diagnosis process quite a bit. They might want to check the service logs first before diving into deeper diagnostics. Keep us posted on what they find. I'm curious to see if it's the same issue I had!

Thanks so much for the reassurance! This really helps calm my nerves about the whole situation. It's great to hear that your repair was straightforward and that the dealers are familiar with this issue. I'll definitely mention the service timing when I take it in next week. Your experience with the main control unit issue sounds spot-on with what I'm experiencing. I'm actually feeling quite relieved now, was worried I'd be looking at some major system overhaul or complicated wiring problems. Knowing that yours has been running perfectly since the fix is really encouraging. I'll make sure to update this thread once I get it sorted. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience and for the detailed explanations. It's exactly the kind of firsthand insight I was hoping to get from the community before heading to the dealer.

Hi there! I have some experience working on cars, mostly basic maintenance and electrical issues. Had a pretty similar problem with my 2019 BMW X5 last year (also own an X3). Initially thought it was a CAN-BUS issue like you mentioned, took it to my regular workshop. They diagnosed it and found out it was actually just a faulty main control unit that needed a replacement and software update. The repair cost me 235 Euro and took about a day to complete. Before jumping to conclusions about the bus system, could you share: Does the system occasionally work, or is it completely dead all the time? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? Did you recently get any software updates? These details would help better understand if you're facing the same issue I had. Sometimes these problems can be fixed with a simple reset, but in my case, it needed that hardware replacement.
