Thanks for sharing your experience! I've got 51477 KM on the clock and had my last service about 2 months ago. Actually, I didn't notice any performance issues before this warning popped up, the car was running perfectly fine. The only warning light is the engine one, nothing else on the dash. Your wiring harness issue sounds quite similar to what I might be dealing with. Did your workshop mention how long the repair took? Just trying to figure out if I need to arrange alternative transport or if it's a quick fix. Really appreciate the help!
Hey again! Yeah, in my case, the repair itself wasn't too time-consuming. Once they identified the issue with the wiring harness, the actual fix took around 2-3 hours. I dropped off my X5 in the morning and got it back the same afternoon. The longest part was actually the diagnostic testing to pinpoint the exact problem. Since your mileage is pretty similar to what mine was when I had the issue (I was at around 54000 KM), and you're seeing the same symptoms, single warning light and no performance issues beforehand, it really does sound like the same problem I encountered. The fact that it happened shortly after a service is interesting too, sometimes these issues can pop up if a connector wasn't properly secured during routine maintenance. I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out soon though. While my car ran fine in emergency mode, it's not something you want to leave for too long. Keep in mind my repair was pretty straightforward because we caught it early. You might not even need alternative transport if your workshop can prioritize the diagnostic scan. Let me know how it goes, I'm curious if it turns out to be the same issue. These BMWs are great cars but they can be a bit finicky with their sensors and connections!
Thanks so much for all the detailed info! That's really reassuring to hear it was a relatively quick fix in your case. I just called my workshop and managed to get an appointment for tomorrow morning. They seemed to think it could be similar to what you described, especially given the timing after the service. You're right about these BMWs being finicky with their sensors, learned that the hard way! I'll definitely take your advice and get it sorted right away. Super helpful to know I might not need to arrange alternative transport if it's just a few hours' job. I'll update the thread once I get the diagnosis and repair done, might help others with similar issues. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience and walking me through this. These kinds of electrical gremlins can be pretty stressful when they pop up out of nowhere!
Hey! I had a somewhat similar issue with my 2017 BMW X5 last year (I have some experience working on cars as a hobby). The emergency mode and warning light combo got me worried too. Turned out it was indeed a faulty connection in the wiring harness connected to the sensor. My local workshop ran a full diagnostic scan and found the stored error codes, they had to replace some corroded wiring and a connector plug. Total bill came to about 95 Euro and the problem hasn't returned since. By the way, I also looked into getting an X7 myself before settling on the X5! To help you better, could you share: How many miles/kilometers on your X7? Any other warning lights showing up? Did you notice any changes in performance before this happened? This info would help determine if you're dealing with the same issue I had.
