Hey Dave! Thanks so much for sharing your experience! That's exactly what I wanted to hear, sounds really similar to my situation. Good to know it wasn't a major repair in your case. I'll definitely check those battery terminals first thing tomorrow morning. By the way, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other electrical gremlins?
Great to hear back from you! After dealing with that Terminal 15 ignition positive issue I mentioned, I'm happy to report it's been running like a dream. The mechanic found it was just a faulty cable connection, one of those annoying little things that can cause big headaches. Total bill came to 95 € for the fix, which was way less than I was worried it might be! Since getting it sorted six months ago, I haven't had a single electrical problem. Dead reliable, just like these cars should be. I know you were worried about going back to your mechanic, but honestly, finding someone who knows what they're doing with these systems is worth its weight in gold. When you get yours checked, make sure they look at all the connections thoroughly. These newer BMWs can be pretty sensitive to even minor electrical issues, but once they're properly sorted, they're solid. Let me know how you get on with yours!
Hey Dave! Just wanted to update you, I took your advice and finally got it sorted! Ended up going to a different mechanic who really knew his BMWs. Guess what? You were spot on about the connections. Had some corrosion on the main harness, plus a loose ground wire that was causing the whole mess. Way cheaper than I expected too, paid about half of what I was quoted at the previous place. Been driving it for two weeks now without any issues. The engine fires up instantly, and all those warning lights are gone. What a relief! Thanks again for sharing your experience, it really helped me push through the anxiety of dealing with another mechanic. This new guy's definitely keeper!
I had a similar issue with my 2020 BMW X5 40i last winter. The ECU voltage error is definitely nerve-wracking, but in my case, it wasn't as serious as it seemed. My car showed identical symptoms, no start, ECU power loss. Turned out the main ECU wiring harness connector had corroded and wasn't making proper contact. The mechanic cleaned the connections, applied dielectric grease, and properly reseated all the plugs. They also checked the ground points since those can cause similar issues. Have you checked your battery terminals? Sometimes what appears as an ECU issue starts there. Based on your mileage, it could also be wear on the wiring harness connections, they tend to get loose over time. In my case, it was a straightforward fix, though accessing some of those connections was tricky. Just make sure whoever works on it is familiar with BMW electrical systems. Hope this helps, Dave
