BMW X7 Climate System Total Failure, Common Sensor Issue?

Hi all! Having issues with my 2022 BMW X7 where multiple temperature-related functions stopped working. The temp display is blank, AC controls aren't responding, and both mirror heating and spray nozzles are non-functional. I suspect it's related to the external temperature sensor, but wanted to hear if anyone else faced similar problems. Has anyone dealt with this and got it fixed at their workshop? What was the actual problem and repair solution? Any input would be really helpful.

Hey there! I had the same headache with my 2020 BMW X5 last winter, and I have some experience working with cars (nothing too fancy though). It's interesting you mention these symptoms because they're exactly what I dealt with. Had to take mine to the workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty wiring connection to the temperature sensor module. The cable had worked loose and was causing all those systems to go haywire. The fix wasn't too complex, they replaced the connector and secured the wiring properly. Cost me 95 Euro and it's been working perfectly since then. Just to help you better: Is your X7 a petrol model? And have you noticed any warning lights on the dashboard? Also, did these issues start suddenly or develop over time? Knowing these details would help compare if we're looking at the exact same problem. By the way, the same issue is pretty common in the BMW X6 from what my mechanic told me. These kinds of electrical gremlins can be tricky, but usually, they're not too serious once you find the root cause.

Thanks for sharing your experience! Yeah, mine's a petrol X7, and I'm sitting at 199029 KM on the clock. Actually, these issues popped up quite suddenly after my latest service, no warning lights or anything beforehand. It's good to know yours was just a wiring issue, gives me some hope it's not going to be a major repair. I'll get it checked out at the workshop, focusing on the wiring connections first. Really appreciate the detailed insight, especially about the cost. Funny how these electrical quirks show up in different BMW models!

Hey again! Yeah, you mentioning it started after the service caught my attention, that's actually quite telling! When I had my X5 fixed, my mechanic mentioned that these temperature sensor issues can sometimes pop up after routine maintenance if the connectors aren't seated properly. Since you're at 199029 KM, it's actually similar to when mine started acting up (I was around 190000 KM). One thing I learned after my experience, make sure they check the entire wiring harness, not just the obvious connections. When they fixed mine, they found that some of the protective covering had worn away near where the harness bends, which contributed to the loose connection. The sudden onset after service definitely points toward something that was disturbed during maintenance rather than a gradual failure. In my case, the workshop admitted they might have accidentally knocked the connector loose while doing something else. The good news is that these kinds of post-service issues are usually pretty straightforward to fix. Just keep us posted on what they find, I'm curious to know if it's the same issue as mine. These BMWs can be temperamental with their electronics, but they're solid cars overall!

Thanks so much for the follow-up! That's super helpful information about the wiring harness, I'll definitely mention that specifically when I take it in. Makes total sense about it being disturbed during the service, especially since everything was working fine before that. The bit about the protective covering wearing away is particularly interesting, I'll have them check that too. I've actually just booked it in for tomorrow morning, and I'm feeling much more confident now about what to discuss with the mechanic. It's really reassuring to know that you had such a straightforward fix for such similar symptoms. I'll definitely update the thread once I get it sorted. Really appreciate you taking the time to share all these details about your experience, it's exactly the kind of first-hand info I was hoping for when I posted!
