Thanks for the detailed response! Yeah, it happened pretty suddenly last week after my latest service. The key fob works fine for locking/unlocking, but I get an "Anti-theft system malfunction" error on the dash. Mine's done 178195 KM, been really reliable until now. I'll try to book it in this week, definitely sounds similar to your X5 issue. Did you have any problems after the recoding was done?
Hey again! Actually, you've reminded me of something important about my X5 experience. After my initial repair, I did have a small problem, the alarm went off out of nowhere a couple of times in the first week after the recoding. Turns out there was more to it than just the optical signals. The workshop had to do a second check and found that the control module for the alarm system needed a firmware update too. It wasn't just a recoding issue like they first thought. The unusual triggers stopped completely after that update. Since you mentioned yours started right after a service, I'd bet something similar is going on. Sometimes these systems get a bit confused after routine maintenance. My total repair ended up being a bit more than I initially said, closer to 150 Euro with the firmware update included, but it was totally worth it for peace of mind. Make sure to mention the service timing when you take it in, that detail helped my mechanic pinpoint the issue faster. Would be interested to hear what they find with yours, since our BMWs share a lot of the same security system components.
Thanks so much for that additional info, super helpful! I'm actually relieved to hear about your experience with the unusual triggers after the first fix, because that tells me I should be prepared for a potential firmware update too. I'll definitely mention the service timing to my mechanic. Looking at around 150 Euro doesn't sound too bad compared to what I was worrying about, was scared it might be a complete system replacement job! I've managed to book it in for next week, so I'll make sure they check both the coding and firmware. Really appreciate you sharing your experience with the X5, it's given me a much better idea of what to expect. I'll probably post an update here once it's sorted, might help other BMW owners dealing with similar issues. Thanks again for all the advice!
@Alonso
I get the error 000007 in the car that says it is a problem of central chassis electronics that I could do in this situation?
Start by checking the battery voltage, as low voltage can cause electronic issues. Ensure the battery terminals are clean and securely connected. If the battery is fine, consider scanning the vehicle with a diagnostic tool to get more specific error codes related to the central chassis electronics. Let me know how it goes or if you have further questions!
Hi there! I have some experience working on cars. I dealt with a similar alarm system issue on my 2018 BMW X5 last year. The symptoms were exactly like what you're describing. Turned out the alarm system needed recoding to properly sync with the optical locking signals (the flashing indicators when you lock/unlock). My trusted workshop sorted it out in about an hour. Cost me 45 Euro for the reprogramming service. Before you head to the workshop, could you share: Did this start suddenly or gradually? Are you getting any specific error messages on the dashboard? Does your key fob still work normally for locking/unlocking? By the way, I've also worked on the X3 from the same generation, and these BMW security systems are pretty similar across models. Happy to help with more specific advice once you share those details.
