Thank you for sharing that experience! My X7 (85577 KM) has been really reliable until now, but I'm seeing the warning light constantly, regardless of driving conditions. No recent brake work, and it's been great since my last service. Interestingly, I'm not seeing any other warning lights on the dash. Your repair cost info is super helpful, definitely gives me a better idea of what I might be looking at. Going to book it in with my workshop next week. Thanks again for the input!
Hey again! Thanks for the additional details about your X7. You know, after dealing with my X5's ABS issues, I've learned quite a bit about these systems. Since you're not seeing any other warning lights, that's actually good news, it really does point toward an isolated sensor issue rather than a more complex problem like I had with my control unit. Given that your mileage is around 85K, this kind of issue isn't unusual. These sensors can get a bit finicky over time. In my case, I initially thought it was just the lateral acceleration sensor too, but it turned out to be more complicated. That's why I ended up with the bigger repair bill I mentioned. Before you take it to the workshop, one quick thing you might want to check, make sure all your wheel sensors are clean from any debris. I know it sounds basic, but sometimes that can trigger these warnings. Of course, given the symptoms, it's probably more than that, but worth a look. Let us know what the workshop finds! I'm really curious if it ends up being just the sensor or if there's more to it like in my case. These X-series BMWs are fantastic cars, but when they decide to throw a warning light, it's always an adventure figuring out exactly what's going on.
Thanks for all that detailed advice! I actually went out and checked those wheel sensors like you suggested, they looked clean, but I appreciate having something I could check myself. Really good to know about your experience with what seemed like a simple sensor issue turning into something bigger. I'll definitely keep that in mind and make sure the workshop does a thorough check of the whole system. I've scheduled the appointment for next week, and they mentioned they'll do a complete diagnostic scan first. I'll probably end up sharing my experience on the BMW forums afterward, seems like these ABS issues pop up often enough that others might benefit from knowing what I discover. Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, it's definitely helped me feel more prepared for what might be coming!
I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW X5 last year (I have some experience working on cars, but mainly basic maintenance). The ABS warning light came on suddenly, and like yours, it was sensor-related. After checking several BMW forums, I took it to my trusted workshop. They diagnosed a faulty control unit that was affecting the ABS system. The whole repair took about 2 days, and I ended up paying around 1000 Euro for the replacement and programming. Before I can give you more specific advice, could you share: Have you noticed any other warning lights? Does the issue happen more during specific driving conditions? Have you had any recent work done on the braking system? The X-series models often share similar electrical components, so this might be relevant to your X7. Hope this helps!
