BMW X6 Washer Fluid System Dead, Fix & Cost Advice Needed

Headlight cleaning system without function

Hey all! Having some trouble with my 2013 BMW X6 (gas engine, 99,956 KM). The windshield washer system completely stopped working, pump isn't responding and there's an error code showing up. Already had a sketchy experience with my last mechanic, so I'm a bit hesitant about going back. Has anyone dealt with similar washer system issues on their X6? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Would really appreciate some insights before I take it to a shop. Thanks!

I had a similar issue with my 2016 BMW X5 last winter. The washer fluid warning came on, and despite filling it up, the pump wouldn't work. Turned out the problem was two-fold: a clogged washer fluid line and a faulty pump. At the garage, they found that some debris had made its way into the system, blocking the line completely. The pump had burned out trying to push fluid through the blockage. The repair wasn't too serious, but it required cleaning out the entire washer fluid system and replacing the pump unit. My experience suggests you should get it checked soon, driving without a working washer system can be unsafe, especially in bad weather. It was a straightforward fix, just took a few hours at the shop. They also inspected the reservoir for any cracks while they were at it, which was good preventive maintenance. If you're worried about your mechanic, consider finding a BMW specialist. This isn't a complex repair, but you want someone who knows these models well.

Hey there! Yeah, I had that exact same issue with my X6, really frustrating when the washer system just gives up! Thanks for sharing your experience. The clogged line and pump situation sounds exactly like what I might be dealing with. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the whole repair? Also, has everything been working smoothly since then, or have you noticed any other quirks with the washer system?

Hey! Glad to give you an update on my X5 situation. After getting it fixed, everything's been working perfectly, no more washer fluid warnings or pump issues. My repair ended up being pretty simple actually. The mechanic found it was just the washer fluid level being too low, which triggered the warning system. Cost me 25 € to sort out, way less than I expected after my initial worry about pump failures and clogged lines! The washer system's been working like a charm since then. Sprays great, no weird noises, and the warning light hasn't come back. It's such a relief when these things turn out to be simple fixes rather than major repairs. If you're still having issues, I'd definitely recommend getting it checked out, might be something equally straightforward for your X6 too. Pro tip: I now make sure to keep the washer fluid topped up regularly to avoid any future warnings. Peace of mind is worth the extra attention!

Thanks for the follow-up! Just wanted to update you on what happened with my X6. Finally took it to a new mechanic yesterday, turns out it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought! The issue ended up being a blown fuse and some dirt buildup in the system. The mechanic flushed everything out, replaced the fuse, and did a quick check of all the spray nozzles. Whole thing took about an hour and cost me €85, what a relief! Funny how we worry about these things being major repairs, right? The new mechanic was super straightforward and even showed me what was wrong. Been testing the washers all morning and they're working perfectly now. No more error codes either! Definitely keeping this guy's number for future issues. Sometimes changing mechanics is the best decision you can make. Thanks again for helping me figure this out!
