BMW X6 Throttle Issues: Help & Mechanic Advice Needed

Poor fuel economy

|

Engine hard to start

Hey all! My 2022 BMW X6 (gas engine, 173k km) has been acting up lately. The engine stutters and feels sluggish when I press the accelerator. It's also burning more fuel than usual and has trouble starting up sometimes. I think it might be the throttle valve, but after a previous bad experience with a mechanic, I'm hesitant to take it back. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their X6? What was the actual problem and how much did the repair cost? Looking for recommendations on reliable mechanics who know their way around BMWs. Thanks for any insights!

Hey there! I had nearly identical issues with my 2019 BMW X4 last winter. The symptoms you're describing match what I experienced, hesitation when accelerating, poor fuel economy, and rough starts. Initially thought it was the throttle body too, but it turned out to be a defective accelerator pedal module. The pedal sensor was sending incorrect signals to the engine control unit, causing all those problems. When my car was at the garage, they had to replace the entire pedal module assembly. It was actually a serious issue that needed immediate attention since it affects both performance and safety. The repair wasn't overly complex, but it required specific diagnostic equipment to properly identify and fix the problem. My car was at the garage for about two days. After the fix, the throttle response went back to normal, and fuel consumption improved significantly. Just make sure you find a garage that specializes in BMW diagnostics, these modules need proper coding after replacement.

Thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful as it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Just curious, do you remember roughly how much you ended up paying for the pedal module replacement? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the repair, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? Want to make sure I'm prepared for what might be coming.

Hey again! Glad I can help with an update! I actually just got this fixed a couple weeks ago, the total came to 205 € for the accelerator pedal module replacement. And I'm happy to report it was definitely worth every penny! My X4 is running like a dream now, the throttle response is back to being nice and crisp, just like when it was new. No more of that annoying stuttering or hesitation when I press the gas. They confirmed it was exactly what I suspected, the throttle valve was acting up and causing all those problems. Since the repair, I haven't had a single issue pop up. Fuel economy is back to normal too, which is a nice bonus for my wallet! It's such a relief not having to worry about those rough starts anymore. Trust me, if you're experiencing similar symptoms, don't wait around like I initially did. The peace of mind alone is worth getting it sorted. And now that I know the exact cost and fix, I wish I'd done it sooner!

Thanks for all the details! I bit the bullet and took my X6 to a certified BMW mechanic yesterday. You were spot on, it was the accelerator pedal module causing all the trouble. Cost me about 230 € in total, a bit more than yours but still reasonable considering how much better the car runs now. The whole repair process was actually pretty smooth. They had it done in about 4 hours, and the difference is like night and day. The engine responds perfectly now, no more stuttering or delayed acceleration. Even my fuel consumption has dropped back to normal levels. Really glad I didn't keep putting this off. The mechanic showed me the old module and explained how these sensors can deteriorate over time. Makes me feel much better knowing it wasn't something more serious. Thanks again for helping me avoid another bad mechanic experience, this shop really knew their stuff!
