Thanks for sharing that info about the pedal module! Actually, just had my last service about 2000 KM ago and everything was fine until last week when this started happening out of nowhere. No other warning lights except the check engine. Haven't noticed anything unusual before this either. Mine's at 60785 KM now, so I'm hoping it's something simple like in your case. Did you notice any specific symptoms right before your pedal module failed? Wonder if I'm dealing with the same thing or if it could be something else.
Hey again! Thanks for those extra details about your X6. Yeah, my X4 was actually around the same mileage (about 58000 KM) when this happened to me. And just like your case, it also came out of nowhere while everything was running perfectly fine before. Looking back, I remember the only very subtle sign I had maybe a day or two before the complete failure, there was this tiny, almost unnoticeable delay between pressing the pedal and the engine responding. But it was so minor I didn't think much of it at the time. Then boom, one morning, all those symptoms you described just hit at once. Since your symptoms match mine exactly and given the similar mileage, I'd put my money on the pedal module. The throttle valve could still be the culprit, but in my experience (and I've seen quite a few similar cases in our BMW community), when you get that combination of high idle and zero throttle response, it's usually the pedal module. Quick tip though, before you head to the workshop, try disconnecting your battery for about 15 minutes and then reconnecting it. This sometimes resets the system and could tell you more about what's going on. If the problem comes right back after the reset, then yeah, you're probably looking at a component replacement like I needed. Let me know how it goes! Always happy to help out a fellow BMW owner.
Thanks so much for all that detailed help! That's really interesting about the subtle delay you noticed, now that you mention it, I think I might have experienced something similar last week but totally brushed it off. I'll definitely try that battery reset trick tonight. You're right about the mileage similarity too, that's quite a coincidence. Honestly, I'm feeling a bit more relieved now knowing this might just be the pedal module rather than something more serious. I've got my workshop appointment scheduled for tomorrow morning, and I'll make sure to mention your experience with the pedal module to them. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, it's super helpful to hear from someone who's dealt with the exact same issue. Will update the thread once I know what's actually causing it. Thanks again for all the guidance!
Hi there! I have some experience working on BMWs and had a very similar issue with my 2016 BMW X4. I was getting those exact symptoms, limp mode, high idle, and practically no response when pressing the gas pedal. After taking it to my regular workshop, they diagnosed it as a faulty accelerator pedal module. The electronic components inside had failed. Got it replaced for around 265 Euro and that completely solved the problem. Before you proceed with any repairs, could you share if you've had any other warning lights or error codes? Also, did this start happening suddenly or was it gradual? This could help pinpoint if we're dealing with the same issue. I know the X6 shares a lot of components with my X4, but it's always good to be certain we're dealing with the same problem before suggesting specific fixes.
