Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! This sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with right now. Quick question, do you remember roughly how much the repair ended up costing you? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks? Really want to get an idea of what I'm potentially looking at here with my X6.
Hey there! Thanks for asking about the costs. Actually, I just got my X4 back from the mechanic last week for this exact issue. The total bill came to 95 €, which honestly wasn't as bad as I expected given my previous experiences with BMW repairs. They found it was just a dodgy cable connection that needed fixing. I'm really happy to report that since the repair, the central locking is working perfectly, no more frustrating moments trying to lock or unlock the doors! Haven't noticed any other electrical issues either, which is a relief. The whole system is responding just like new now, both with the key fob and the door handles. I'd definitely say it's worth getting it sorted sooner rather than later. These electrical gremlins can sometimes lead to bigger problems if left unchecked, but in my case, it turned out to be a relatively straightforward fix. The mechanic mentioned these connection issues are quite common in BMWs, so at least they know exactly what they're looking for now.
Thanks so much for all that detailed info! I actually just got back from the mechanic today after taking your advice. Had a completely different experience than my last repair, they found a damaged wire in the door harness and some corrosion in the locking module. Final bill came to around 150, bit more than yours but still reasonable considering what I was expecting. They actually showed me the damaged parts and explained everything clearly, which was refreshing after my previous mechanic experiences. The car's working perfectly now, all doors lock and unlock smoothly, and that annoying error code is gone. Really glad I got it sorted quickly before it turned into something bigger. Super grateful for your help! It definitely made me feel more confident about getting it fixed instead of putting it off. Now I can finally stop worrying about whether my car's properly locked when I leave it!
I had a similar issue with my 2018 BMW X4 last summer. The central locking system completely failed, no response from key fob or door handles. The diagnostic showed it was a faulty connection in the door locking module, plus some corroded wiring near the main harness. Got it fixed at the dealership since it's a complex electrical issue. They had to replace the main door lock actuator and rewire some connections. Not a quick fix, took them about 6 hours total. It was quite serious since it affected the whole security system. Since then, it's been working perfectly. Just make sure whoever works on it has experience with BMW electrical systems, these issues can be tricky to diagnose properly if you don't know what you're looking for. Hope this helps with your X6 situation. Let me know if you need any other details about what they did to fix mine.
