Thanks for sharing your experience! Mine is a 2021 X5 with 71404 KM on the clock. My last service was just two months ago, and everything was working fine then. To answer your question, no, there's absolutely no noise when I press the button. It's completely silent, which makes me think it could be the motor like in your case. Did you need to get the part from an official BMW dealer, or did your workshop source it independently? Really hoping this won't break the bank!
Hey again! Yeah, that silent response when pressing the button sounds exactly like what I experienced with my X3. You know how these things usually make at least a slight whirring sound? When there's nothing at all, it's usually the motor that's given up. For my repair, my workshop actually got the part from their own supplier, it wasn't a BMW original part but a quality aftermarket one. That's partly why it cost me around 330 Euro instead of the crazy prices BMW dealers charge. The part worked perfectly fine and I haven't had any issues since the replacement. Just a heads up though, the repair cost might be a bit different for the X5 compared to my X3, even though they're pretty similar cars. The sunblind systems aren't exactly the same, but the basic problem and fix should be comparable. If you're still under warranty (which you might be with a 2021 model), definitely go through BMW. But if not, I'd recommend finding a good independent workshop that specializes in BMWs. They'll probably save you some money while still doing quality work. Let me know how it goes, always interested to hear if others have the same experience I did!
Thanks for all the detailed info! After checking my warranty paperwork yesterday, turns out I'm still covered until early next year, what a relief! Going to book it in with BMW next week. Really appreciate the heads up about the aftermarket parts option too. I'll keep that in mind for future repairs once the warranty expires. My regular independent workshop actually specializes in BMWs, so that's good to know they could handle this kind of repair. The cost difference between the X3 and X5 parts makes sense. At least with the warranty, I won't have to worry about that for now! Will definitely share how it goes once it's fixed, might help someone else with the same issue down the line. Thanks again for taking the time to explain your experience, super helpful!
Hey there! I had a similar issue with my 2019 BMW X3 last year. I have some experience working on cars, but electrical stuff isn't my strong suit. The sunblind motor on my X3 completely died, wouldn't budge at all. Took it to my regular workshop and they confirmed the motor was fried. They had to replace the entire motor unit. Parts and labor came to around 330 Euro, which sounds about right based on BMW repair costs. Before you go to the workshop, what's the manufacturing date of your X5? And does the sunblind make any noise when you try to operate it? This info would help determine if you're dealing with the same problem I had. The repair took about 2 hours in my case. They had the parts in stock, which was lucky. Just make sure you go to someone who knows BMWs well, these systems can be tricky. Let me know those details and I might be able to help more!
