BMW X5 Misfire Mystery: Owner Seeks Help After Bad Repair

Jerking on acceleration

Shaking while idling

Check engine light on

Help needed, X5 misfiring issues making me nervous after bad mechanic experience I drive a 2019 BMW X5 (152,304 km, gas engine) and I'm experiencing some concerning symptoms. The engine runs rough, especially when accelerating, with noticeable jerking and poor throttle response. Check engine light is also on. Based on these signs, I suspect it's a misfire issue. Had a really disappointing experience with my previous mechanic, so I'm hesitant about where to take it. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms in their X5? What was the actual problem and did you find a trustworthy mechanic who properly diagnosed and fixed it? Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I can relate to your X5 symptoms. My 2016 BMW X3 had very similar issues last month, rough running, jerking during acceleration, and misfiring. After diagnostic tests, it turned out to be faulty fuel injectors. Had to get two injectors replaced since they were leaking and not delivering fuel properly. This was definitely a serious issue that needed immediate attention, as bad injectors can cause further engine damage if left unfixed. When mine was acting up, the engine would stumble badly, especially during cold starts. The repair wasn't too complex for an experienced BMW technician, but proper diagnostic equipment was crucial to pinpoint the exact faulty injectors. I'd strongly suggest getting it checked soon. Those symptoms are pretty much identical to what I experienced, and putting off the repair could lead to bigger problems. The peace of mind after fixing it was worth it, my X3 runs perfectly smooth now.

Thanks so much for sharing your experience with the injector issue. That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with right now. Quick question, do you remember roughly what the repair ended up costing you? Also curious if you've had any other issues pop up since getting it fixed? Really hoping to get my X5 running smoothly again without breaking the bank.

Hey there! Just wanted to follow up on your question. I got my X3 fixed last week and it's running like new now. Total bill came to 515 € for replacing the faulty injection valve, which was causing those annoying misfires. The mechanic confirmed it was definitely the injector acting up, exactly what they spotted in the diagnostic test. I'm super relieved to say I haven't had a single issue since the repair. No more engine jerking or rough running, and those combustion misfires are completely gone. The car feels way smoother during acceleration now, just like it should. Trust me, it was worth every penny to get it sorted properly. Just to put your mind at ease about the cost, while it wasn't exactly cheap, it was a lot better than risking more serious engine damage down the line. Plus, being able to drive without worrying about those symptoms is such a relief. My advice would be to get it checked out sooner rather than later if you're experiencing similar issues.

Thanks again for the detailed feedback about the repair cost and follow-up experience. I finally got my X5 checked out yesterday and you won't believe it, turned out to be clogged injectors too! The mechanic I found was actually great, totally different from my last bad experience. They did a thorough diagnostic test and found two injectors needed cleaning plus one had to be replaced. Bill came to around 600 bucks total, a bit more than yours but not as scary as I was expecting. The best part? Car's running smooth as silk now. No more jerking or rough acceleration. Honestly, I feel silly for putting it off because of that previous bad mechanic experience. This new guy really knew his stuff and took the time to explain everything. Even showed me the gunked-up injector they replaced. Such a relief to have this sorted, guess sometimes you just need to find the right mechanic for the job! Thanks for helping me build up the courage to get it fixed.
