BMW X5 Light System Stuck On, Switch Assembly Issue?

Thanks for sharing your experience! My X5 is showing the B800F code, and it started happening quite suddenly last week. I've got 12885 KM on the clock, and it's been regularly serviced. No other electrical issues so far, everything else works perfectly fine. I'll definitely have my mechanic check the wiring harness and connectors based on what you mentioned. Really hoping it's just a connection issue like in your case and not the entire switch assembly. Would much rather deal with a simple wiring fix than replace the whole module!

Oh hey again! Thanks for providing those details about your X5. Yeah, that B800F code is definitely linked to the lighting control system, had the same one pop up on my X3 when I had my issue. Looking at your mileage and the sudden onset, I'm even more convinced it could be similar to what I experienced. The weird thing with these BMWs is that even with regular maintenance, these electrical gremlins can still pop up out of nowhere. When mine happened, it was also pretty sudden, working fine one day, completely dead the next. Since you mentioned it's been regularly serviced and there are no other electrical issues, I'd put my money on the wiring harness/connector problem rather than a complete switch failure. In my case, the mechanic initially thought it was the switch too, but after a proper inspection, those corroded connections were the culprit. Saved me quite a bit of money compared to replacing the whole assembly! Just a heads up though, make sure your mechanic thoroughly checks all the connection points. Mine had to trace the entire circuit because the corrosion wasn't immediately visible. It's a bit fiddly to get to, but definitely worth checking before swapping out any major components. Let me know how it goes, curious to see if it turns out to be the same issue!

Thanks so much for all the detailed info! You've honestly made me feel a lot better about this whole situation. I'll definitely get my mechanic to do a thorough check of all the connection points before jumping to any conclusions about replacing parts. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, especially since it was such a similar issue. Just booked it in for tomorrow morning, and I'll make sure to mention checking the wiring harness and connectors first. You're right about these electrical issues popping up out of nowhere, guess that's just part of BMW ownership! The fact that your repair was relatively straightforward and cost-effective gives me hope. I'll update you once I get it sorted. Thanks again for all your help!

Hey there! I have some experience working on BMWs, had a similar issue with my 2008 BMW X3 last year. When I saw your post, it immediately reminded me of my situation. Actually have an X1 now, but that's beside the point. The symptoms you're describing sound exactly like what I experienced. My lights were stuck on, and the switch was completely unresponsive. Took it to my regular workshop, and it turned out to be a faulty connection in the wiring harness near the light switch module. The technician found some corroded pins in the connector that were causing the issue. The repair involved replacing the wiring connector and cleaning the contact points. Cost me around 95 Euro, and it's been working perfectly since then. Before we jump to conclusions though, could you share: Which error code you're getting? Have you noticed any other electrical issues? Did this start suddenly or gradually? This info would help figure out if you're dealing with the same problem I had. These BMWs can be tricky with electrical gremlins sometimes.
