Thanks for sharing your experience! Such a relief to hear someone else dealt with this exact problem. I've been worried it might be something more serious with the main electrical system. Would you mind sharing how much the repair ended up costing you? Just trying to get a rough idea before I head to the shop. Also, has everything been working fine since the fix, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks popping up?
Hey there! Just wanted to follow up since you asked. After my door handle electronics were fixed, everything has been working perfectly, no more keyless entry issues or error codes. The repair was actually pretty straightforward and cost me 95 € to fix. Turned out it was just a faulty cable connection in the handle module that needed sorting out. I'm really glad I got it properly fixed rather than trying any temporary solutions. My mechanic did a thorough job checking all the connections, and honestly, it's such a relief not having to deal with those annoying electrical gremlins anymore. Been about a year now, and I haven't had a single electrical issue pop up since. Makes sense that you were concerned about the main electrical system, I was worried about that too! But these door handle modules are just a common weak spot in our BMWs. If you're getting similar symptoms to what I had, it's likely the same issue. Trust me, once it's fixed, you'll be back to that convenient keyless entry life in no time!
Just got back from the mechanic, and guess what? You were spot on! Had my BMW fixed today, and it was exactly what you described, a faulty door handle module. The mechanic found some water damage in there too. Really glad I asked here before going in blind. The repair took about two hours, and while it cost a bit more than yours (probably because prices have gone up), it was totally worth it. The keyless entry's working perfectly now, and all those annoying error messages are gone. Such a relief! The mechanic I found was actually great, really took the time to explain everything and even showed me the damaged parts. Way better experience than my last repair shop. Been testing everything since I got home, and the car's working like new. Thanks again for your help! Sometimes these car issues seem super scary until you hear from someone who's been through the same thing. Really appreciate you sharing your experience, saved me a lot of worry!
I had a similar issue with my 2012 BMW X3 last year. The keyless entry failed completely, and the car was throwing electrical codes. Turned out the wiring harness in the driver's door handle was corroded and had some loose connections. The repair wasn't too complex, they had to replace the door handle module and repair some of the wiring. My mechanic showed me the old part, and you could clearly see where moisture had gotten in and damaged the connections. It wasn't a serious mechanical issue, but it definitely needed fixing as it was affecting multiple systems. Based on your symptoms, it sounds very similar to what I experienced. The door handle electronics are a known weak point in these models. Make sure whoever works on it checks both the handle module and the wiring connections thoroughly. Not something you want to patch temporarily.
