Thanks for sharing your experience! That sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. It's pretty reassuring to hear someone else had the same symptoms and got it sorted. Do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, has everything been running smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other issues pop up? I want to make sure I'm prepared for what's ahead with my X5.
Hey again! Just wanted to follow up, got my X3 fixed and everything's been running like a dream since then. The exhaust back pressure sensor replacement sorted out all those DPF pressure problems completely. Cost me 245 € total, which honestly wasn't as painful as I was expecting. The black smoke's completely gone, power's back to normal, and that strong diesel smell has disappeared. Really happy I got it done when I did. Best part is I haven't had a single issue pop up since the repair, it's been about six weeks now. The engine's running super smooth, and the check engine light hasn't come back on. Trust me, getting that sensor replaced was worth every penny. If your X5's showing the same symptoms, I'd definitely recommend getting it sorted sooner rather than later. These BMWs really don't like it when you let DPF issues linger!
Just wanted to update everyone, took my X5 to a mechanic yesterday and got everything sorted! Found a really good shop that specializes in European cars. The mechanic spotted the issue right away, exactly what mentioned about the pressure sensor. They also found some soot buildup that needed cleaning. The whole job cost me about 300 bucks, a bit more than's repair, but still way better than I was fearing. Took them about 4 hours to fix everything up. The best part? Took it for a drive afterward, and wow, what a difference! No more black smoke, power's completely back to normal, and that nasty smell is gone. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. Thanks again for the advice, it really helped me make the decision to get it fixed right away instead of waiting around. Now I can finally enjoy driving my X5 again without worrying about every little noise!
I've got a 2010 BMW X3 diesel and dealt with almost identical symptoms last month. The exhaust back pressure sensor on mine was completely shot, causing similar issues, reduced power, black smoke, and that typical diesel smell got really intense. Took my X3 to a garage and the diagnostic confirmed a faulty pressure sensor in the DPF system. It was seriously affecting the engine's performance and could've led to more expensive damage if left unchecked. The repair wasn't just about swapping the sensor, they had to clean the DPF system as well since it had affected the regeneration cycles. The whole job took about a day. These pressure sensor issues are pretty common on BMW diesels around this mileage. My advice? Don't wait on getting it fixed. A faulty DPF system can end up damaging other components if you keep driving it like this.
