Thanks so much for sharing your experience! You described exactly what I'm going through with my X4. Great to hear you got it sorted out! Would you mind telling me roughly how much you ended up paying for the fix? Also, has everything been running smoothly since, or have you noticed any other issues popping up? Just want to know what I might be looking at cost-wise and if I should expect any related problems down the line. Really appreciate your help!
Hey again! Great to hear back from you! Yeah, I'm happy to share more details. After my last post, I actually took my X3 to the mechanic and got everything sorted out. The issue was exactly what we suspected, the intake hose was leaking. Total bill came to 100€ for parts and labor, which wasn't too bad considering how much better the car runs now. Since getting it fixed, my car's been running like a dream, no more hissing sounds, no jerking during acceleration, and fuel consumption is back to normal. It's been several months now and I haven't had any related issues pop up. The mechanic did a thorough job and even checked the surrounding components while they were in there, just to be safe. You shouldn't expect any other problems if it's the same issue as mine. Once they fix that intake leak, you'll notice the difference right away. My advice would be to get it done soon though, driving with an intake leak can potentially cause other problems if you leave it too long. Let me know how it goes when you get yours fixed! Always happy to help out a fellow BMW owner.
Thanks a lot for the detailed follow-up! I actually took my X4 to a mechanic yesterday. Just like you said, it was indeed an intake leak, cracked hose and some worn-out vacuum lines. The total came to roughly what you paid, and honestly, I'm relieved it wasn't anything more serious. The difference is incredible! No more hissing, the jerking has completely stopped, and the engine feels so much smoother now. My mechanic was actually pretty great, did a full inspection while they were at it and everything else looked good. Really glad I didn't wait any longer to get it fixed. You were spot on with your diagnosis and advice. Definitely saved me from stressing out too much about it. It's such a relief to have it sorted, and knowing you haven't had any issues since your repair makes me feel even better about the whole thing. Thanks again for all your help, really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!
Hey there! I had almost identical symptoms with my 2011 BMW X3 last year. The hissing sound and jerking during acceleration were exactly what I experienced. Turned out to be a cracked intake boot and a few deteriorated vacuum lines. These rubber components tend to get brittle over time, especially in these engines. Took it to my regular garage where they did a smoke test to confirm the leak locations. The intake boot had a major split near the throttle body connection, and that was causing the majority of issues. They also found two vacuum lines that had small cracks. It was actually a straightforward fix, they replaced the intake boot and those vacuum lines. Not a super serious repair, but definitely something you need to address soon because it affects engine performance and can cause additional problems if left unchecked. My car's been running smooth since then, fuel economy went back to normal, and passed emissions with no issues. Given your symptoms, it sounds very similar to what I dealt with. Would recommend getting it checked out sooner rather than later.
