BMW X4 Power Seat Controls Dead, All Functions Failed

Electric seats malfunction

Hey all! Having trouble with my 2023 BMW X4 (gas, 109,606 km). The power seat controls stopped working completely, both manual and memory functions are dead. Got an error code stored in the system. Last visit to my mechanic wasn't great, so I'm hesitant to go back. Has anyone dealt with similar electric seat issues in their X4? What was the fix and how much did it cost? Looking for recommendations on reliable mechanics who know their way around these problems. Thanks in advance!

Hey there! I had this exact issue with my 2020 BMW X3 last year. The seat controls completely died on me too, no response from any button, just like yours. After getting it checked, turned out the main wiring harness under the seat had some damaged cables and a loose connector. The constant seat adjustments over time had caused some wear and tear. The fix wasn't particularly complex but it did require removing the seat to access the wiring. My mechanic found several pinched wires and had to replace a section of the harness, plus reseat some connectors. It wasn't a major repair in terms of car functionality, but definitely needed proper attention to avoid any potential short circuits. If your error code is similar to what I had, it's likely the same wiring issue rather than a motor problem. I'd suggest finding a mechanic who specializes in BMW electrical systems, it's not something you want a general tech guessing at. Just make sure they thoroughly check the connectors and wiring before replacing any expensive components. Sometimes it's just a connection issue. Hope this helps!

Thanks for sharing that, sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with! The wiring harness explanation makes total sense. Would you mind letting me know what you ended up paying for the repair? Also curious if you've had any other electrical problems since getting it fixed? I'm trying to budget for this and want to make sure it's a long-term solution.

Hey again! Great news, I actually just got my seat issue completely sorted out! Took it to a BMW specialist and they found exactly what we suspected, it was just a faulty cable connection under the seat. Only cost me 95€ for the fix, which was way less than I was worried about. The repair was pretty straightforward once they identified the problem. They just had to fix the connection and everything's working perfectly now. All the seat functions are back, both manual adjustments and memory settings are responding like new. Such a relief! And to answer your question about other electrical issues, nope, haven't had a single problem since the repair. It's been smooth sailing with the seat controls. Looks like it really was just that one connection causing all the trouble. From my experience, if you're seeing the same symptoms I had, you're probably looking at a similar simple fix. Just make sure you get someone who knows BMWs well, it makes a huge difference in getting it diagnosed and fixed right the first time. Let me know how it goes when you get yours looked at!

Thanks so much for all that detail, really puts my mind at ease! Actually just got back from a new mechanic I found who specializes in BMW electrical systems. You were spot on about the wiring, they found some damaged cables under the seat and fixed them up in about an hour. Cost me a bit more than yours at 150€, but still way less than I feared. The best part? All my seat functions are working perfectly now. Such a relief after dealing with that frozen seat position for weeks! The mechanic was great too, showed me exactly what was wrong and explained how to prevent similar issues in the future. Definitely keeping them as my go-to for any future problems. Thanks again for helping me understand what I was dealing with. Really saved me from stressing out over what turned out to be a pretty straightforward fix!
