Hey again! Thanks for sharing your experience with the sunblind motor issue. Really helpful to know what you went through with your X3. You mentioned they replaced the motor assembly, but I'm curious, do you remember roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also, has everything been working smoothly since the fix, or have you noticed any other quirks? Cheers!
Hey there! Happy to give you a follow-up! I got the sunblind motor fixed about a month ago, and it cost me 330 € for the complete repair, including parts and labor. The mechanic did a great job, the sunblind's been working perfectly since then, smooth as butter! No weird noises or problems at all. Actually feel a bit silly now for putting it off for so long. You know how it is though, always worried about getting overcharged for repairs. But honestly, it was worth every penny to have it working properly again. The garage even cleaned and lubricated all the tracks as part of the service, which was a nice touch. If you're still looking to get yours fixed, just make sure they use genuine BMW parts. These motors are pretty robust when they're the real deal. Let me know if you need any other info! Take care!
Hey, thanks so much for all the details! Just wanted to update you, I took your advice and finally got my sunblind fixed yesterday. Actually ended up being a bit cheaper than your repair, paid 290 € all in. The mechanic I found was fantastic! Really knew his stuff about BMWs. Funny thing is, when I got there, they spotted the issue right away. Turned out the motor was completely fried, just like yours. They had it sorted in about 2.5 hours, and even showed me the old motor, looked pretty rough! They did that same track cleaning and lubrication you mentioned too. The sunblind's working like new now. Such a relief to have it fixed, didn't realize how much I used it until it broke! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, helped me stop putting off the repair. Thanks again for all your help!
Hey there! I faced the exact same issue with my 2019 BMW X3 last month. The sunblind motor completely died on me, wouldn't budge an inch. Got the same error code too. Took it to the garage and they diagnosed a failed motor unit in the sunblind mechanism. Apparently, these motors can burn out over time, especially with frequent use. The technician mentioned it's a fairly common issue in this series. They had to replace the entire motor assembly. It wasn't a critical safety issue, but definitely annoying since I couldn't use the sunblind at all. The repair took about 3 hours to complete. They also checked and lubricated the tracks while they were at it, which was a good preventive measure. From my experience, it's not a DIY job, you need someone who knows BMW electronics well. Make sure they use genuine BMW parts for the replacement. The motor assembly comes with a warranty, so keep that in mind. Hope this helps with your decision.
