Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful since it sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Good to know about the footwell module, I'll definitely have that checked out. Would you mind sharing how much the repair set you back? Also, curious if you've had any other electrical quirks pop up since getting it fixed? Appreciate the help!
Hey there! Just wanted to follow up on your questions. Since my last post, I actually took my X6 to the mechanic and it turned out to be simpler than the footwell module issue I initially thought it was. The problem was actually just a faulty light switch, specifically a bad cable connection. They fixed it up in about an hour, and it only cost me 95 € to repair the connection. Way cheaper than I was expecting! To answer your other question, nope, haven't had any other electrical issues since getting it sorted. The lights work perfectly now, no more stuck beams or control problems. It's been running smooth as silk for months. Sometimes these BMW electrical gremlins turn out to be pretty straightforward fixes once you get them to the right mechanic. Guess I got worked up over nothing with my footwell module theory! Let me know how yours turns out.
Thanks for the update! Went ahead and got my X4 checked out today. Turns out my issue was a bit different, ended up being a corroded connector in the main lighting control unit. The mechanic showed me the damaged part, and wow, it was pretty crusty! Fixed it up in about two hours, cleaned all the connections, and replaced a couple of worn-out wires. Cost me around 200 bucks total, parts and labor. Not too bad considering I was worried it might be something major. The lights are working perfectly now, no more stuck beams or error codes. The mechanic also gave it a quick electrical system check and everything else looks good. Really glad I didn't put this off any longer. Thanks again for helping me figure this out. Definitely feeling better about the whole situation now!

fault in the lighting system of the bmw 320i 2018
the lights go on and off the air switches itself off and on according to the lights, expensive sometimes it locks and sometimes it doesn't what is it ?
Start by checking the battery and alternator to ensure they are providing consistent power, as fluctuating voltage can cause electrical issues like the ones you're experiencing. If the battery and alternator are fine, inspect the fuses and relays related to the lighting and air conditioning systems for any signs of damage or corrosion. If the issue persists, it might be wise to have a professional diagnose the problem, as it could involve more complex electrical components. Let me know how it goes or if you have any further questions!
Had a similar problem with my 2016 BMW X6 last year. The symptoms were exactly the same, stuck low beams and complete loss of light control. Initially thought it was just the switch, but my mechanic found it was actually the footwell module that was causing the issue. The connections had corroded and were sending wrong signals to the lighting system. The fix wasn't too complex, but it did require specialized diagnostic equipment to properly identify the failing component. They had to remove the footwell module, clean all the connections, and reseat the wiring harness. In some cases, they need to replace the entire module. It's definitely not something you want to ignore, as it can affect other electrical systems in the car. The repair took about 3 hours at the garage. Would suggest having it checked at a shop that specializes in BMW electrical systems, as they'll have the right diagnostic tools.
