BMW X4 Error Messages: System Readiness Check Issues

Error message in the speedometer

Hey all! I'm having trouble with my 2017 BMW X4 gas model. Getting error messages in both the error memory and speedometer display. I suspect it might be related to an incomplete system readiness check. Has anyone dealt with similar symptoms? Would love to hear what the actual problem was and how your mechanic resolved it. Any help in pinpointing the issue would be much appreciated.

Hi there! I have some experience working on BMWs, and I actually had a similar situation with my 2015 BMW X3 last month. Lucky for me, I didn't have to pay anything since my local workshop had just done an OBD2 scan on my vehicle. Turned out some error codes were lingering after they'd cleared the memory. The mechanic just needed to complete a proper drive cycle to reset all the monitors. Could you share what specific error messages you're seeing? Also, have you had any recent work done on the car? That info would help me give you more relevant advice based on my experience. Hope we can help you get this sorted!

Thanks for the quick response! My X4 just had its service about 3 weeks ago at 35251 KM. I'm seeing "Check Control Message" on the dash and "System Check Incomplete" in the error memory. I haven't done any work on it since the last service, which makes this even more puzzling. I'll try to get those specific error codes for you. Really appreciate the tip about the drive cycle, that could definitely be something worth checking out.

Hey again! Yeah, those symptoms on your X4 sound exactly like what I dealt with on my X3. After reading about your recent service, I'm even more convinced it's related to what I experienced. When my car had service, they reset everything, and those same messages popped up, "Check Control Message" and "System Check Incomplete." It was pretty annoying, but it turned out to be nothing serious. The monitors just needed time to complete their self-tests through a proper drive cycle. What worked for me was driving normally for about 20-30 minutes, making sure to include both city and highway speeds. After a couple of drives like that, all the messages cleared up on their own. The system just needed time to run through all its checks. Since you've had similar service timing and identical messages, I'd bet good money you're dealing with the same thing. Give it a few normal drives, and if the messages don't clear up within a week, then maybe head back to your service center. But honestly, based on my experience, it should resolve itself. Let me know if those messages stick around though, would be interesting to hear if your X4 behaves differently than my X3 did!

Thanks so much for sharing your experience, it's really reassuring to hear I'm not the only one who's dealt with this! I'll definitely try your suggestion about the drive cycle. It makes total sense that the system needs time to complete all its checks after the service reset. I was getting worried it might be something major, but you've put my mind at ease. I'll plan to do those 20-30 minute drives over the next few days, mixing up city and highway speeds like you mentioned. Fingers crossed the messages clear up on their own just like yours did. If they don't, I'll head back to the service center, but I'm feeling pretty optimistic now. Really appreciate you taking the time to explain everything in detail. I'll keep you posted on how it goes, though hopefully, I won't need to because everything will sort itself out! Thanks again for the helpful advice!
