Hey, thanks for sharing your experience! That's really helpful to know about the wiring harness being the culprit. I was wondering, do you remember roughly how much the repair set you back? Also, has everything stayed working properly since then, or have you noticed any other electrical quirks popping up? Just trying to figure out if I should brace myself for more issues down the line.
Hey again! Just wanted to update you. I actually just got my X5 back from the mechanic last week for this exact issue. They found and fixed the problem, it was indeed just a faulty cable connection that needed sorting out. Only cost me 95 € which was way less than I was expecting, especially compared to some other BMW repairs I've had! And to answer your question, absolutely everything has been working perfectly since the repair. The massage function now turns on and off exactly when it should, no more unusual activations or getting stuck. I've been using it daily on my commute and it's been fantastic. Haven't noticed any other electrical issues either, which is a relief. I was worried at first that it might be something more serious or that fixing one thing would lead to discovering other problems (you know how it goes with these cars!), but nope, it was genuinely just that one connection that needed fixing. Simple and straightforward in the end. Hope this helps give you a better idea of what you might be looking at cost-wise. Let me know how it goes with yours!
Thanks for the follow-up! I actually just got my X3 back from the shop yesterday. What a relief, turned out to be pretty similar to your situation. The mechanic I found was really upfront about everything. They spotted a damaged wire connection right away, and while they had it open, they checked all the surrounding connections too. Total bill came to about 120 bucks, more than yours but still way better than I was expecting. The best part? The massage function's working perfectly now. No more unusual starts or getting stuck on! Even tested it on my drive home, and it was like having a brand new feature again. Funny thing is, I was so worried it would be this huge complicated repair, but it ended up being relatively straightforward. The mechanic even showed me where the problem was and explained everything. Much better experience than my last repair shop! Really appreciate you sharing your experience, it definitely helped me know what to expect and not panic about the potential cost. Sometimes these luxury car features can be a real headache, but this turned out to be a pretty painless fix!
Hey there! I feel your pain. Had a similar massage seat problem with my '09 BMW X5 last year. The symptoms were almost identical, unusual activation and wouldn't shut off when commanded. Turned out the wiring harness under the seat had some damaged cables that were shorting intermittently. Took it to my mechanic and they had to partially remove the seat to access the connection points. The main issue was a worn-out cable sleeve that exposed some wires, causing them to make contact when they shouldn't. They replaced the wiring harness assembly and resealed all connections properly. It wasn't a critical safety issue, but definitely annoying when it acted up. The repair itself wasn't too complex, but accessing the components was the time-consuming part. Make sure whoever works on it is familiar with BMW electrical systems, there's a specific way these need to be diagnosed and fixed to avoid triggering other errors. The massage function has worked flawlessly since the repair. Just be prepared that they'll need to keep your car for at least half a day to properly diagnose and fix it. Best of luck!
