Thanks for sharing your experience! The alternator/battery combo issue sounds exactly like what I'm dealing with. Everything you described matches up perfectly with my X3's symptoms. Would you mind telling me roughly how much the whole repair set you back? Also curious if you've had any other electrical quirks pop up since getting it fixed? Really need to budget this out before I head to the shop.
Hey again! Just wanted to follow up. Actually, after getting my X5 checked out, it turned out to be simpler than the alternator/battery issue I initially thought it was. The mechanic found it was just the Transport Mode that was accidentally activated, much better news than I expected! Since my car was still under warranty, the fix didn't cost me anything. The mechanic just needed to deactivate the Transport Mode using their diagnostic equipment, and everything went back to normal right away. No more electrical gremlins, nav system's working perfectly, and all those warning lights disappeared. I feel a bit silly now for thinking it was something more serious, but honestly, when all those systems start acting up at once, it's pretty scary! I haven't had a single electrical issue since the fix, everything's running smooth as butter. You might want to get yours checked too, could be the same simple fix. And if your car's still under warranty like mine was, it shouldn't cost you anything either.
Thanks for the update! what a relief to hear it might just be Transport Mode after all. Your experience gave me the confidence to try a different mechanic, and I'm so glad I did! Took it in yesterday, and you won't believe it, same exact situation as yours. The new mechanic was great, quickly diagnosed it as Transport Mode, and fixed it in under an hour. The best part? It cost way less than I'd been stressing about. All those electrical problems vanished instantly. Looking back, I feel pretty silly for putting it off for so long. Should've just bit the bullet and taken it in sooner instead of worrying about another bad mechanic experience. The nav system's back up, no more unusual warning lights, and everything's working perfectly now. Thanks again for sharing your story, really helped me make the right decision. Time to enjoy my properly functioning X3 again!
Hey there! Had the exact same issue with my 2009 BMW X5 last month. The electrical system went haywire, nav screen blacking out, unusual warning lights, and power windows acting up. Turned out to be a failing alternator that wasn't properly charging the battery, causing cascading electrical failures. Got it fixed at the shop, they had to replace both the alternator and battery since the old battery was damaged from being repeatedly drained. It was definitely a serious repair job that took two days to complete, but worth it since these electrical gremlins can cause more expensive problems if left unchecked. Your symptoms sound identical to what I experienced. I'd suggest getting it checked soon, these electrical issues rarely fix themselves and usually get worse over time. While Transport Mode could be related, the widespread electrical problems point more toward a charging system failure. Best of luck with the repair.
